Can you tell me where all the 32 to 62.5k claiming races have gone? Where have all the maiden races, where are the Alw races?

The only thing left is stake races and mdn claimers, lots of those...the middle is gone. Heck even a staple 5 years ago. the mid level claiming grass race is all but disappeared, this has nothing to do with the HP meet.

I laugh when I hear people say just let it die.....if there is no horse racing in socal, that would mean no simulcasting...what that hurt say NYRA, or Ky?

Would it hurt the farm economy in Ky?

right now, although not as bad as cali......but ALL RACING right now is hidious. i mean, aqueduct is a joke, the horses running at hawthorne / fairgrounds are MULES........its sad.

The internet handle will crush the simulcast money.. No need to go to the track to wager and be around goobers and drunks.

I dont want California racing to die, but it's going to take tax incentives and larger purse money too bring the owners back. The owners are what makes the game, without thier investment it's only dirt thats left.

the bettors have a lot more to do with it. If the handle disappears there is no purse money for the owners to win.

I know the costs of being an owner or a trainer in California are silly high. Workers Compensation insurance premiums alone make owning a business in CA a tall order...

yup, insurance + taxes...hey. I have some wealthy friends who owned horses in socal...they have relocated businesses to other states, and not shockingly have horses at those tracks.

Really? We don't have racing here in CT, but we have OTBs all over the state.

I'm sure no racing in So Cal would funnel more handle to other tracks.

If the tracks were to close in this completely hypothetical situation that I'm not necessarily arguing for (although CA racing right now is a complete joke) would those laws stay the same? Would all CA tracks have to close for the state to supposedly lose interstate wagering? What if Los Al were to stay open?

I don't think it works like that, as far as long term model growth. That would be like saying we would all be better off with less competition, when in fact it works the opposite.

I would also argue that Ky is not as healthy as you may think. I have no clue on NYRA other than they were in bankruptcy last year.
