Between Discreet Cat and Bernardini, I wouldn't be surprised if u are right. They look as good as a horse can look so far.

This makes me even more excited about tomorrow - DC did his thing and I know Bernardini will do his thing tomorrow. I guess the Sheikh's have no choice but to run their colts against each other, no matter how hard they try to avoid it.

He was standing up, looking under his legs and over his shoulders to see what was back there. Under a long reign, he was still drawing off and running fast. That was ridiculous. Looks like the track might be a little on the quick side but still, 1:21.53 is fast. Final 8th was in 12.15. These numbers don't mean much if u didn't see how easy it was. Baedecker (sp) is on TVG now mentioning the names Secretariat and Seattle Slew. This is crazy.

Best horse is running tomorrow - it will be fun to see. However, Secretariat and Slew? They need to calm down - neither colt is anywhere close to that yet.

How do u know they aren't close to that yet? They could be better already. They just don't have the same accomplishments obviously but who's to say they don't have more talent? I will grant u that it's unlikely they are as good as Secretariat or Slew but not impossible. I'm sure after Secretariat and Slew's first races, if anyone had said they were in the class of Man O' War or Citation, people would have said it's too early to say that but look how it ended up. Great horses are great horses from the start. If, at the end of his career, Discreet Cat shows he deserves to be mentioned with the all-time greats, then the talent is there now.

King ...

Go to the "Charles Hatton Reading Room" and read my anecdote about him ... you'll be amazed.

And Seattle Slew ... like Ruffian ... was considered to be a wonder horse ... or potentially one ... right after his first start.

And ... of course ... I spotted Bernardini's abundant talent while watching him break his maiden. You surely remember that from the "other" forum.

Looks like no Breeders' Cup this year...they know Bernardini has that in the bag...here are post race quotes from the assistant trainer:

"I doubt you’ll see him in the Breeders’ Cup [Saturday, November 4, Churchill Downs] this year; first things first. We’ll go in the Jerome and see how he comes out. He won easier than I thought he would. It’s a weight off our shoulders to get him back. ”

I would bet almost anything that he runs in the Clark (G1) in late November at CD if he exites the Jerome in good order....we'll see i guess...

Oh man! If only those two horses were facing off tomorrow in the Travers, that would be the race of the year, man how good are Bernardini and Discreet Cat, the great thing about the Sheiks owning them instead of those greedy Coolmore guys, is they actually LOVE to race their horses, it could be a great rivalry next year as well!!!!!

Yes, I remember that. And I have read that some people thought wonderous things about Sec after his first start. But they were still in the minority. I mean the majority of people would have said it was too early to compare him to the all-time greats. I don't think it's crazy after one or two starts, even less so after four or five, to say u think a horse has all-time talents. Either it's there or it's not. It doesn't take 20 starts to develop it.

If you are trying to find something to knock this horse, there is only one posibility and that is durability with his light schedule. This cud be a good thing tho. They didnt ruin him prepping for the TC.

But ... the last great horse they had ... Lammtarra ...

... raced only three times as a 3YO ... then was retired.

I don't see the sheiks being such great "sportsmen."

I would take Bernardini over him right now but with another race or two in him I could see him winning the BC Classic. I really doubt he could get there though off just the Jerome. I get the feeling they are pointing him toward the race in Dubai.

It seems kind of nutty for them to be pointing to Dubai ... since they're the ones who put up the purse money there.

How smart is it to race for the same money that you stole?

Hey ... but they stole it fair and square .. so I guess they can do whatever they want with it.

I hope the Sheikh runs Bernardini next year and doesn't ship him off to stud before we really know his true potential. I thought for sure a month or so ago that it would be a sure thing, but now I'm getting nervous that the Sheikh Mohammed may count on DC next year so that he can make Bernardini the top man at Darley/Jonabell.
