Not everyone. Anyone who thinks Calvin was fighting Garcia's battle needs to take another look at what went down. Calvin was incensed that his horse got impeded. And kudos to Garcia, who had the biggest right to be angry, to stay out of it.

It cost Derailed five grand. Was it worth it to him? Maybe he thinks so, but if he thinks it did, he basically rode for nothing in the BC races.

If he's so highly thought of and supposedly "owns Churchill", how come he only got 5 mounts in the 14 BC races

Friday
3rd in the 5th
7th in the 8th
9th in the 10th

Saturday
10th in the 5th
9th in the 9th

He's on the decline.

Borel is overated as a jockey.

Can't win on any other track except Churchill....and especially when competing against "world class" jockeys...

so it doesnt matter how good the horse is that he's riding?

Didnt he just win his 48th Kentucky Derby this year on a horse who sucks?

Actually, hasnt he won 2 straight Derby's on horses who havent won since?

I think the last thing Borel is on is a decline.

You might want to rephrase that 2nd sentence.

What has he done lately?

He had 3 decent horses in the 5 BC mounts he got and didn't do jack. Even in the 3 races he rode on the undercard, he couldn't pull off a win... and this was at Churchill.

I don't understand all why all the hate against Calvin all of a sudden. Not only did the incident cost him a chance of winning the race, but him and his mount could have been seriously hurt (or worst) if Garcia and his horse went down. I don't know how he stayed up (the horse or Garcia for that matter), but there was a pretty good chance that Borel, his horse and maybe a couple other would have been wiped out by Garcia and his mount. So Borel had a pretty good reason to be pissed. Was it a bit over the top?, possibly. Should have he waited an taken issue in the jocks room?, probably. But no one has the right to deny the fact that he had a pretty good damn reason for being upset and wanting a piece of Javy's ass.

The definitive word of what went down was "Unprecedented". Stuff like this happens all the time in horse racing. Are you recommending that horse pilots act like hockey pucks every time they get bogarded? Someone with a more level head, like Garcia, would have just left it to the stewards who handed down a tough sentence to Castellano - his horse DQ'd, $2500 fine, and 6 days suspension. Why did CB feel he had to seek justice - was it going to change anything other than to get his butt in a peck of trouble?

But, my stats on his races both BC days speaks volumes for how much of a decline this guy is in. He can't even handle Churchill anymore, and he doesn't seem to be cutting it anywhere else either.

Oh, yeah, just sayin'...

Yeah you are so right. I'm sure Rene Douglass is fine with the 30 days they gave Theriot for the number he pulled.
We aren't talking about bruises and cuts here, we are talking about life and death.

You'll have to take that up with the stewards. Maybe they took into account that Castellano was just plain stupid rather than blatant hateful.

And, the emphasis is more on Calvin's decline in riding ability than it is for his penchant to go for something "unprecedented". Maybe he's working on a new career when racing is no longer providing enough moolah.

In my opinion, the only black eye he landed in that fight was on the sport of horse racing.

These things happen in the heat of the moment . I'm glad neither the horses nor jockeys were hurt .

What does his riding ability or his stats of late have to do with the fact that he lost all chance to win the race and had the possibility of getting seriously injured by the actions of Castellano? Based on what happened, Jackie Davis would have had the right to get in Javy's face if she was aboard A U Miner.

As far as black eyes for the sport, I really believe the whole Life at Ten fiasco wins in that category in a runaway.

I agree - a bigger black eye.

Pletcher was in the room getting ready to watch the race. The same room he watched the Uncle Mo race in. When he was told of what was happening, he came down and finally made it to the rail as they were going into the gate. A lot of people dropped the ball there.

Obviously, he didnt care about the peck of "trouble" he would find. who knows, maybe these two have a history and it reached a crescendo on Friday. javi shouldnt have been so reckless. Sure, Calvin was prob pissed b/c he was full of horse and about to make a run. Things happen in the heat of the moment. We shouldnt be so quick to condemn someone b/c they had a justifiable altercation with someone who nearly wiped out 2 or 3 horses. So what! it was a scuffle between 2 midgets. the only people who care about it are the pacifists and stupid non racing media.

Bottom line is javier was reckless, no one said he was hateful and that is why he was DQ'd. Jaime Theriot is not known to be hateful, yet his actions had terrible repercussions for rene douglas.

He hasnt asked for the notoriety he has garnered the past few years. While he may not be the most talented jock, he has the respect of the horseman...whether it's 15k claimers or stakes horses, he gives an honest effort, which says a lot more than some jocks.

as for you stats on BC days indicating his decline, there were several high profile jocks who didnt sniff a win at BC like ramon dominguez, martin garcia, javi castellano, jose lezcano, bejarano, alan garcia, and JULIEN LEPAROUX (the other king of kentucky) on much liver horses.

based off your "stats" analogy, I guess guys like bejarano, castellano, leparoux, and dominguez are in decline also!

also, CB has most recently won CD's fall 2009 and spring 2010 meet. So "he cant even handle churchill" is a bit premature, dont you think? Let's wait a while before we conclude that he is declining.

I, too, said on another topic on this same subject that there probably is some history between the two. I suspect Saratoga - not sure.

Someone made the comment that CB sticks up for his peers - or words to that effect. I countered that CB being enraged about his horse being impeded. He wasn't going to bat for anyone but himself.

And, while Castellano's action was careless, no horse went down and no one got hurt. Calvin may have won the race - maybe not.

As to the other jockeys who didn't fare well, that doesn't factor into the debate. Calvin is supposed to Mr. Churchill. He had 8 shots at it both days and couldn't nail a win. Isn't he expected to do better at CD than other jockeys? He went in Friday with 7 0-0-0.

But, you're right - let's wait and see how he handles the CD meet. Maybe he can keep his title of "one track jockey".

And, the altercation he provoked has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion of him declining in ability. Two separate issues.

I don't know if I agree Borel career is on the decline. But, he's been awful since the summer. 4 for 64 at Saratoga and even worse at Keeneland. He's obviously in a bit of a funk.

what would it take? A major spill and 2 guys being dumped for it to be serious! There's a reason javi was taken down. there arent different levels of being reckless!

i was merely adding clarity and substance to your argument about BC weekend and the supposed decline.

Friday...Ack Ack--2nd
bc mar...3rd
Who says he is Mr. Churchill? The media and fans do. All i am saying is he hasnt asked for that. who cares if he is a "one track jockey," most jocks are no track jocks. the great ones separate themselves in this area.

He had very little support at Toga and had a bad meet which byk pointed out several times on ATR which i suspect fuels part of your argument. Personally, i do not think he is a great jock, but i do respect him and the honesty he brings to his owners.

who knows, there may be some truth to his decline, but i dont think anyone really cares about the midget wrestling incident except pansies and espn types.

OK - last go around on this subject.

Please don't put words in my mouth. What happened was "serious", but it wasn't catastrophic. The stewards are there for a reason as someone else pointed out. Jockeys know that and I'm pretty sure they agree to abide by that and not take frontier justice in their own hands.

And, Please don't assume to "add clarity and substance" to my argument. You're perfectly free to do it to your own. You disagree with me and I with you - pure and simple.

I already posted CB's race record for the two days. It's in one of my earlier posts.

I'm sure CB hasn't demanded any accolades, but he sure lives off the ones he's been given or else he wouldn't have displayed the level of arrogance he had on Friday.

4 - 64 this year and an even worse record last year. His one claim to fame at Saratoga 2009 was his win on Rachel.

I'm no pansy, but I sure can recognize bad behavior. CB showed absolutely no concern for the owners and the horses he was to ride in later races - even later in the jocks' room when supposedly he went at it again with Javier. I know if I was an owner of one of the horses he was going to ride later on, I'd sure want him off that horse. You don't think his actions may have factored into Tell A Kelly running a crap race?

I don't wish ill on Calvin. I can only go by what he's been doing lately, and there definitely is a pattern of decline. Maybe he can pick his game back up, but he's no spring chicken and the younger guys are getting the hype.
