That's one opinion regarding that particular story. See "interstate highway system".

America sucks at manufacturing. Green energy, technology, science, infrastructure - we no longer seem to make much effort to create, build, grow, make jobs. We make our money off gambling on money.

Do we suck at manufacturing or are the unions driving manufacturing out of the country because we can get cheaper labor elsewhere? Did you forget about cap and trade? Don't you think companies are scared to develop manufacturing in the US with things like cap and trade/tax that could come back.

Also the way to create jobs is not thru public funding of unnecessary projects with no long term benefit.

Wisconsin does not need a rail system between Milwaukee and Madison and only the new governor from WI is willing to say so. The greedy, blood sucking gov. from IL wants the money for ???? He like the rest of the IL dems always can find somewhere to waste it.

Your hate for America coming through loud and clear.

Forget about CAT, John Deere etc., our I.T. industry, our solar and wind fields not to mention nuclear energy and every environmental regulation known to man, our discoveries and cures within the medical world and our highway system not to mention there being an airport in every town over 100K.

Yea those muslim countries and China got us beat!

Get a clue. Our 'most poor' and even our illegals/prisoners live better than 60% of the world. And yet somehow we suck! LMAO

I didn't say America sucks, you uncomprehending idiot.

I said we currently suck at manufacturing things. Our solar and wind field technology and use (and other energy developments) are well behind the rest of the world. We are well behind in medicine and "cures", too, and we suck worse daily at math and science .

Our interstate highway system and airports were built in the 1940-1960's. Nice of you to acknowledge past achievements. You forgot the first intercontinental railroad. Yes, I know you want to live in the last century, and rest on our past laurels, but that's what has caused us to fall well behind in multiple areas in this century, today.

Get up to speed, acknowledge it, and stop holding the rest of us back. Focus on something other than your own obvious hate for anything and anybody non-America, and instead try to grow America in the current world, not your past one.

Yes, most of America is far better than the third world - no argument there Why you think those two things should be comparable is beyond me.

Try comparing the US to other first world countries. You repeatedly and constantly ignore we have one of the highest infant mortality rates. We have terrible unaddressed poverty and starvation in this country. The education of our children is falling behind the rest of the first world. Information technology? How are we doing currently? Again, manufacturing? How has that industry done over the past 50 years?

Your devotion to keeping America as it was 75 years ago is touching, but it's killing us.

Unions were needed back when they initially started. They gave you good things like "weekends off" And healthcare. And a living wage.

But in the past 50 years, independent capitalist businessmen that made those deals with the Unions made bad deals in some cases, didn't they?

It was supposed to work well, as long as those businessmen could continue to make quality, desireable product that would sell and pay for the deals they made with their employees.

Don't discount the failure of businessmen - our auto industry in general comes to mind - to continue to make a decent product. They didn't. They went broke as their fellow Americans bought better made, more desireable products from non-American sources. That's capitalism at work.

The government funding jobs is exactly what got us out of economic hardship before. Historically, it's been proven to work. Doing nothing has been proven not to work. Most economists say the economic stimulus wasn't enough, hence why we are still languishing at 9.6% unemployment.

"Unnecessary projects with no long term benefit?" - you mean the current government funding of multiple infrastructure repair projects? That doesn't fit your definition. What are you talking about specifically? That the jobs are not permanent? That's the whole point.

We lost 700,000 jobs over the last year of the Bush administration - so how do you think that "hands off business" government policy is now magically supposed to create jobs, when it's just been proven not to work?

How does the policy of no government interference in business supposed to work to keep jobs at home? Don't you think some incentives need to actively be in place?

How is "extend a trillion in tax cuts for the rich, and deepen our budget deficit, so the private sector rich can create jobs" supposed to now magically create jobs, when that policy is what was already in place when 700,000 jobs were lost?

Guess everyone else feels it could be useful, then. Appears the new Governor is a minority opinion.

It would create jobs building, maintaining and running it over it's lifetime, allow more affordable and ready job access for those in other cities (people who can't move because they took on too much mortgage could commute), shipping ease (alternative competitive sources - isn't capitalism good?) for Wisconsin and intrastate mfg and production (the rail line extends to other states).

No way! It could cost money! Don't do it!

Again get a clue. The train would go thru farm fields. Unless you're a gangster or Marquette student there's no reason to go to Mad-Town and unless Summerfest is going on in Milwaukee there's no reason for Mad-town persons to go there. And U of Mad is out for summer taking away 90% of passengers. Look building crap is fun if you're watching your kids but not in the real world.
