disagree. john mccain in 2008 was probably the best candidate for president i ever didn't vote for. we'd all be better off if he'd been elected in 2000 instead of bush.

Well he used a racist term for the people that held him captive. And the feigned outrage club can't have that.

i wanted him to get the nom instead of bush back then. but when he finally did get that nom, he blew it with his selection of running mate.

he would have lost with jesus as his running mate in 2008. it was the economy. obama/palin would have beat mccain/biden.

That's why he would not of been a good President. The guy always needs do-overs. This is not a brilliant decision maker. He was over 70 years old. His V.P. choice was not of minor importance. He fkd up.

McCain wanted Leibermann, and Liebermann was willing to do it and be vetted. They even figured they could get him through the GOP convention with a walkout only of part of the ultra-con base.

Lindsey Graham (McCain's good friend) inadvertently put the kabosh on that one at a speaking event, leaking that a "pro-choice" candidate could be considered. Remember that public firestorm of speculation on that one? Leib was out.

So a week before the GOP Convention McCain had no VP pick. Palin was an unvetted hail mary "gamechanger" attempt to suck up the base.

I agree with that. McCain started to blow it in 2008 during the trip back to Washington in the "crisis" (where he "canceled the debate", but ended up doing nothing in Washington, and Obama looked presidential). He was a different man by 2008, though - cranky, old, burnt-out, didn't seem like he really wanted to run.

I was voting McCain all the way up to three days after Palin was announced as the VP pick. By then the horror was too much.

Obama has said he personally does not support gay marriage. To him, marriage is man-woman. Yet Obama supports the freedom of others to do what they wish And in fact, he is fighting for that very right for others.

That's the difference between Democrats, who honor and respect the freedom of others to do differently than themselves; and Republicans, who do not.

the defense of marriage act was voted on with both dems and reps supporting the bill, and bill clinton(d) signing it into law-remember? i doubt it's all as cut and dried as you think-and pols will vote according to what they think will get them re-elected, not by what's on their conscience.

I'm talking about Obama's past and current stated views on gay marriage, not about who supported or didn't support DOMA.

Obama's personal views differ from what he has supported as best for the country. He gets kudos for that from me. As opposed to the politicians that try and legislate the rights of others away, because others might choose to live privately in a way (abortion, gay unions or marriage, etc) the politician doesn't personally approve of.

Obama said he was Christian and regularly attended a church with a racist pastor before arriving in DC (when Rezko owned the property next door and Michelle was making 200K from a hospital though not even close to a Dr or dietician).

Not wanting to 'cause disruption' he avoided finding a church for himself and family and like a good Christian father is teaching his children 'disruption' before they cover the 10 commandments etc etc.

my post was in response to your statement that dems are all in favor, and reps are all not, regarding gay marriage, etc etc. i'm not sure why you're responding about just obama. i applaud him for taking a stance that won't win him popularity with some, although i did think his original take on it all was weak. my point was that your blanket assertion regarding each party is false. there are members of each party who don't follow their party's line. thankfully.

and you know what he's teaching his children how? i don't see that his religion is any of your business, or anyone else's.

In the same way RIOT knows what's going on in Madison.

Besides Obama considers himself equal to God I'm sure.

so what? I could care less if Obama goes to church or not.

I'd much rather a President not go to church than use a book released by the Roman Government to dictate policy.
