What a disgrace. My parents brought me up in the 60's and 70's to totally respect the police but now at 55 I have seen way to may instances of too many of them being total scumbags. Where else could an ego maniac control freak who would probably be working at a gas station be able to bust the balls of a CEO. Total losers.

Interesting police tactic. Seems to be a win-win situation in that uninsured cars are taken off the road and the city makes some $$$ in fines and ultimately at auction.

Quote:
Recently, the City of Dallas , Texas , passed an ordinance stating that if a driver is pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to provide proof
of insurance, the car is towed.

To retrieve the car after being impounded, they must show proof of insurance to have the car released. This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.

Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up and were full after only nine days. Most of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.

Not only must they provide proof of insurance to have their car released, they have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and $20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.

Dallas' solution gets uninsured drivers off the road without making them show proof of citizenship.

there are other cities with such a rule in place already. uninsured motorists are breaking the law and should have their cars towed. who wants to get hit by an uninsured motorist?

my daughter was hit by another driver the other day-luckily he had liability coverage.

You can't drive an uninsured car in any state that I'm aware of (heck, maybe Wyoming, though). If an officer pulls you over for, say, a seat-belt violation, he can't let you go on your way in that uninsured car after he tickets you.

However: yes, I have to get that car off the side of the road by having it towed. I would have it towed back to my driveway, where it would sit until I would get it insured.

And if I didn't get it towed (like any undriveable car on the side of a road now) eventually after "X" days of official notification, the government could clear it by towing it to their storage facility.

But for the government to immediately impound my car, make storage fees off of it, and end up disposing of it, is simply theft by the government.

I can't see how it will stand up to a court challenge.

Dell, you are supposedly libertarian - I cannot believe you are in favor of the government stealing people's cars to make money off them. It is not illegal to own a non-driveable automobile.

That's very sad, and angering. Tasing isn't considered as "safe" as it once was, it's harmed too many people

In my experience police repeatedly fail to recognize medical emergencies when they confront them.

From the comments, it wouldn't surprise me to learn the poor guy had something like diabetes and was having a low blood sugar situation causing the aggression during the stop (and would predispose to death by tasing).

in this state, like all it's illegal to drive a car without insurance. however, the cops only issue you a ticket if you dont' have proof of insurance.
as for impoundment, the people driving illegally are well aware they're breaking the law. i can understand having a car towed immediately-i can just imagine the ensuing law suit if one was to pull over a driver and then send them on their merry way in the car, only to have them hit another car and can't pay the damages. those cars are a menace, and should be removed from the roads until coverage is proven. towing to your house gives you NO incentive to get insurance.

If I didn't know better, I would think this is some sort of joke.

Nevertheless, it is not certain that FAST will be implemented throughout the airport system. Cost is one barrier. Practical concerns, such as the high rate of false positives, is another. Political backlash poses a problem.

this ought to show that we give homeland security too much money, if they're spending part of it on science fiction like this. but it'll never be implemented.

and :

The deployment may also be part of the beginning phases of REX84 (Readiness Exercise 1984) being activated due to a catastrophic event that is yet to take place.

A NASA video recently released alludes to this possibility and issues a warning to all employees regarding living near large
bodies of water. Watch the NASA video yourself.

as well as:

Another possibility reason for the deployment may stem from reports that White House was prompted by NASA late last year that there was threat from outer space now facing the nation and a deflection campaign will need to be implemented – this document was signed by Eric P. Holdren.

Then you have the FEMA/FCC Take over drill happening on September 26, 2011 — the very same day asteroid 2005 YU55 threatens to hit earth and/or the moon.

Alternatively, another catastrophic threat from space would be the detonation of the super nuclear EMP bomb a just released defense intelligence report reveals China has been building and testing.

According to a report in The Asia Times, the EMP bomb could be detonated in outer space and would destroy all electronic equipment in the U.S. effectively sending America back to the middle ages in less than one second.

Casualty estimates project that 9 out of 10 Americans would die within a year as a result of the blast.

check out the awesomeness:
