Funny thing is, HRTV didn't show it live.

Schrupp is an unbearable, mugging ass, back to his CRC days, when I first encountered him. I dearly wish somebody had a clip of his childish, idiotic rant on TVG in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, where he felt, for some reason, we needed to hear his moronic political beliefs. It would be priceless.

Isn't that because the Swale was going off at the exact same second?

Yes, the usual genius of Florida racetracks. And many others.

Can someone ask Schrupp how Oaklawn's Rebel day handle was down 5.7% and attendance 8%? I guess the attendance was because of the amount of people who stayed home to watch him on TVG.

It was a crack at Schrupp saying TVG bolstered Oaklawn's handle. If TVG was so helpful, how were they down so much on the 2nd biggest day of their meet?

I wasn't taking a shot at you. They (TVG) are touting the handle at OP up because its the only thing they have on that is worth something. Oaklawn lost 8 days last year due to weather and what's worse is that Santa Anita Saturday was sloppy and off turf. It would have been down even more if they were fast/firm.

and with Keeneland and Woodbine opening today, Oaklawn has been bumped off the air.

good news for oaklawn. average daily handle/attendance was down, but total handle/attendance was up. it pays not to miss days.

That's actually bad news. Considering the investment they made in having their races televised by TVG and the immaculate weather they had, being down in any category is bad.

Oaklawn is a very poorly run racetrack for the simulcast bettor. Limited menu of wagering options, late draw for entries, poor post time management. At least HANA loves them...

i thought their avg daily's were down compared to last year because of lost days last year. the fact that overall attendance and handle were up is what i thought was good. obviously the daily's would be nice to be larger, but the fact that there were more people going and betting is a good thing, isn't it?

No, the difference between the purses they paid out and the additional handle was almost a dollar for dollar match. You have to be taking in many more times your purses in handle in order to be successful.

They spun it nicely by concentrating on the total number, which is not as important as the daily number. Basically, they ran 16% more days and received just over 2% more in handle.
