Yes, undocumented children brought to this country by their parents have grown up and served in our miltary. And no, they won't earn citizenship, but yes, they will be able, effective today, to be in the country legally for 2 more years (if they are approved).

Why only two, I will ask you the same question though I know the real answer.

i don't care for them saying they won't issue drivers' licenses. reason being, you can't buy auto insurance if you haven't got a license. doesn't mean they can't buy a car, or drive it. so, how would you feel if you were in a wreck, the other driver is at fault-and they have no insurance?? and they don't have it, because they were kept from getting a license? and they may not be an actual citizen-but why would someone who is working and paying their taxes, and doing everything correctly be rightfully kept from getting a d.l.? i think there should be something in place that would allow them to get something that would allow them to drive legally while here.

At what point do we hold the law breakers accountable? The parents knew the risk of deportation and yet they still broke the law by coming here and bringing their children. So now they get a buy to secure more votes when they are just people who have no regard for the law.

more votes? getting a work permit doesn't give them a right to vote.
and you're right, the parents did wrong. not the kids' fault.

No illegals, parents or children on the deferred deportation, get to vote. They are not citizens.

It's estimated that out of the 1.2 million children and young adults estimated to come forward and register in the deferred deportation system, only 800,000 will be eligible for the 2 year deferment. The rest will be deported as a result of their coming forward.

I know that illegals don't get to vote but by enacting this new policy it does secure more votes from people who support it

It's nice to see you finally try to use actual facts!

According to current figures from Immigration and Customs Enforcement -- the federal agency responsible for deportations -- Obama has removed 1.4 million people during his 42 months in office so far.

Technically, that's fewer than under George W. Bush, whose cumulative total was 2 million. But Bush’s number covers eight full years, which doesn’t allow an apples-to-apples comparison.

If you instead compare the two presidents’ monthly averages, it works out to 32,886 for Obama and 20,964 for Bush, putting Obama clearly in the lead.

Bill Clinton is far behind with 869,676 total and 9,059 per month. All previous occupants of the White House going back to 1892 fell well short of the level of the three most recent presidents.
Works for me - keep going at that rate, Obama, you're readily eclipsing George W. by nearly a third! If one wants immigrants deported, it appears Obama's ramped it up, and he's your man

what is it about the new app process that you don't like? it doesn't mean the people who apply are any closer to citizenship. but it does remove a stigma, and allows those seeking jobs to get them without having to be paid under the table-which the govt hates. it costs them twice, once from the employee, and also from the employer. being above-board means a lot of money collected from paychecks, with the added bonus of probably never paying any back out in bennies later on.

besides, you don't think obama only did this from the goodness of his heart? hell no. maybe get some votes, but far more importantly--$$ to the coffers. it's always, always about the money. also, this way when obama's fellow pols and rich buddies need domestic help...why, there it is. without them ever having to explain hiring someone who might not have been here 100% legally.

Wow. Way to slam the young adults and military personnel eligible, who are in college, earning good grades, or working, preparing to be good, contributory American citizens some day.

PS - the cost of the program is zero - there is no income from it, it merely pays for itself.

And it's estimated that 400,000 young people will apply for this 2-year-deportation deferment, but will turn out not eligible under the Obama program, and will end up deported. (estimate 1.2 million apply, 800,000 accepted meeting standards for program inclusion)

The DREAM Act was supported by many a Republican, and John McCain - before Obama became president, of course. Then the anti-brown bigots took over the Republican party and hating brown people became all the rage. Literally - rage.

Well, yes. Of course. I was going to vote McCain (until he picked Palin), but one of the reasons I then voted for Obama because I believe in the DREAM Act. Both Obama and McCain supported the DREAM Act. Romney does not, his policies are very harsh IMO.

The Republicans in the House blocked any chance of DREAM Act passing. So Obama did an exectuive 2-year-deportation deferment for those that meet strict eligibility, gets these illegals "into the system".

Romney won't do that. Yes, you bet my vote goes to Obama, not Romney, for doing something I WANT our Congress/executive branch to do. It polls as a very popular position among American citizens, GOP, Dem and Independent, btw.

Politicians should do what we, the citizens, want done. As Obama did here. That's why we elect them.
