Granted, he might not have been the most sound horse -- but on his day he could have challenged anybody in the history of the sport. Dr. Fager might have beaten him at a mile but GZ wouldn't have been that far behind. And that's saying a lot.

Ghostzapper was maybe not "great" based on his paucity of races but he was certainly "very special" in terms of pure unadulterated speed. And that was speed at any distance. Carrying weight too.

He and Candy Ride were two of the fastest horses we have seen in a long time.

I totally agree. Why is it though that we never stop hearing about Ghostzapper and never hear about Candy Ride who was just as fast and who destroyed some very good horses?

Ghostzapper is in that category with a Candy Ride, but you can't put him with the top horses of all time.

I would take Candy Ride over Ghostzapper. He is a track record holder at 10f at Del Mar.

Revolution -

Weren't you the one at the top of the thread giving GZ the business about a short career, and now you are taking Candy Ride over him. I don't get the logic?

He doesn't believe in using logic in arguments. Its counter to his principles.

I always use logic. People like you just are not smart enough to understand logic.

My posts are very consistent. A short career can't make for a great horse. As I stated, neither could be a great horse. They are both in that talented category but not great. If I had to take one or the other I would take Candy Ride. If I had to take a great horse or one of these two, I would take a great horse.

Here is a logic lesson for you

If somebody says a horse can't be great with a short career that does not equal that if you have two horses that were not great, the one with the longer career would be superior.

I was using length of career as a factor in determining greatness, not as a factor in determining which of two non great horses is better.

Do you understand that or is logic to complicated for you? You can't mix your conditions.

Probably the dumbest thing I have ever read here. Candy Ride ran a mile in 131 flat (A WORLD RECORD) and holds a track record at Del Mar at 10f. Lava Man is not even in his league.

That was a joke in reference to Durkin's exclamation at the wire of the Wood, in which he screamed "jaZEEEEL!"

Sorry if you didn't catch it.

That is what we call an "I didn't know what the hell I was talking about post." Make them, realize how stupid you look, and then say you did it on purpose.

Sounds like a Ghostzapper lunatic fan. Anyway you look at it Ghostzapper and Candy Ride are virtually the same horse. Tons of talent, but no strong enough to get to the track regulary. Running that fast probably led to their soundness issues. That is what separates great horses from very good ones like GZ and CR.

And what is your definition of a "great" horse?

Well why don't you ask yourself and your brother if you think Barbaro was great?
I personally think he was great, but you obviously can't say that you think he was because he wasn't "sound enough to get to the track every often"
LOL!!!

I guess greatness doesn't mean much to you. If he was great what do we call horses like Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Dr. Fager, Forego, etc. You can't seriously put a horse like Ghostzapper of Candy Ride in a league with those horses. They are clearly a notch below greatness. You can't race 11x in 4 years and be great. Those top horses ran 11x or more in a single year.

Barbaro was not great. He was like many very good horses, close but not there. Greatness is not just brilliance when one runs. Greatness is brilliance and frequency. How do you call Barbaro, Ghostzapper, Candy Ride great and compare their records to a Spectacular Bid. They are so far short of horses like Spectacular Bid it isn't funny.
