Default Promo clip of this week's The Office

Well, I now see why they wanted Joss Whedon to direct this week's episode of The Office (Thursday, NBC)...here is a link to a video clip to promote the episode, Vampire Jim...LOL!

Curious what you thought Somer....

It was funny, I didn't see anything he really brought to it and felt it was the status quo, which isn't an insult I like the show.

I mean Jim is messing with Dwight 24/7. I think the best was when they had him on the roof waiting for his secret mission.

Worst episode ever, don't know if you can really blame it all on him, but I hope they don't try that experiment again...

Other than his fanboys, I think the guy's a hack, my old roommate was nuts over that dumb Buffy show, I tried watching it, but it was awful, yeah I know here comes the comments about how you have to be smart to watch it....I saw that he got kicked off of Wonder Woman, probably a smart idea, because it would have been a failure, except for the small group of smart people that would go see it....

Everybody is entitiled to their opinion...all the verbal attacks you make are obviously designed to get an emotional response out of me...sorry, I could care less! I think Joss is the greatest creative mind in TV, you can think he's a hack...I think Buffy was the best show ever on TV, you can call it dumb. You can slam people for watching it...but in the end, you look like the one with sour grapes. Seriously dude, with your attitude, it's obvious you'd hate the episode...as others have said, it was the show's basic format...as much as I love Joss' work, I didn't see much difference nor would I have expected to! Nobody but haters like you ever said you had to be "smart" to enjoy his work...all types of folks like it and all types don't like it...only a few feel the necessity to attack others for liking it however.

I agree...it was the show in it's basic format...I saw a couple nice touches in the camera work and the actor's presentations but nothing out of the ordinary...as I expected. A writer has far more input in TV than a director usually (reverse in movies), if Joss were to direct an entire arc or season I'd expect to see differences but not really in a single episode. He wrote for Rosanne of course and is very familiar with the format, he came in and did a nice job...if you check out several myspace sites belonging to cast and crew of the show, you'll see that they really enjoyed working with Joss and had lots of praise for him. It was a funny episode...it's a funny show! If you like the show (and aren't a Joss hater or someone trying to stir something up), you enjoyed the episode...if you don't care for the show, I suspect you felt the same about that episode.

Honestly, I didn't know this was the one that he directed, I was thinking about why this one was so bad, then it hit me and then I saw this post...It probably wasn't all his fault, the writers had alot to do with it...

Sorry if everyone doesn't gush over the guy, but I thought Buffy was dumb...

I don't expect everyone to be a fan, different folks like different things, that's why there are hundreds of TV channels and movies released every year...different tastes. Thing is...an open mind often leads folks to finding good stuff, when I first heard they were making a TV show out of Buffy, I was skeptical (I saw the movie and it was...well not so hot) but I decided to give it a chance and I fell in love with it, and all of Joss' work. Recently I saw a movie called Dusk to Dawn written by Tarantino and directed by Robert Rodriguez...I hated it and posted how bad it was here in fact. I always thought Tarantino was overrated and said so...probably started watching the movie with that mindset. Well, I was bored last week and decided to watch it again (OK, I love Juliette Lewis and that was enough to sit through it again). First I watched it with commentary and it opened my eyes a bit, then I watched it again...I was dead wrong, I really liked it! I have to assume that I let my feelings about Tarantino cloud my perception the first time...I'm glad I gave it a second chance cause now I have another DVD to watch when bored that I really like! I think we all let preconceptions rule us still...I know I did in this case!

Somer,

Does Joss produce his own material (movies and TV) or have a team of Producers that follow him with his work?

C & C,

Joss was one of several writers on Speed and Toy Story, he wrote Buffy (movie) but it was directed by a guy who bastardized his script per studio orders, he wrote and directed Serenity, it was produced by Barry Mendel. Firefly was produced by several folks as were Buffy and Angel...Joss created all three and along with Tim Minear was primary writer/director on Firefly. Angel had many writers/directors but again primarily Joss and Tim. Buffy had many fine writers/directors...Marty Noxon took over a lot of duties for Joss in seasons 6/7 but as with all three tV shows, Joss had final approval on every episode. If you look at a list of writers/directors on those three shows, it reads like a TV "who's who" as they have also done work on XFiles, Lost...pretty much every good show on the tube.

Dwight hunting the Bat was great. The rest was OK. Michael is absolutely going overboard though.

Oh yes, when Dwight put the black trash bag (while in a gas mask) over that one lady's head, was the bat in her hair and did he actually catch it? Wives tale bat in the hair thing... I was just wondering if he actually caught it?

Best episode was when they all had to wear ethnic group index cards on their foreheads.

I must be getting payback for bashing this episode, I wake up this morning at 4am to go to the gym and next thing I know a bat is dive bombing me and my wife. Freaked me out, I am going to suit up like Dwight and give it a beat down if the exterminator doesn't get here soon...

I don't think it was me...although I've been having strange dreams lately and I woke up about 7am and my arms were tired, like I'd been flapping them all night! Didn't go away until after my third cup of blood...oops I mean coffee!

Speaking of the show, here is a link to a video interview with Joss over at IESB.com during which he talks about the episode, his love for the show, his friendship with Jenna and some other insights into the actors...good stuff!

One of the best TV shows of all time. The British Office is the reason I won't watch the American version.

Anyone else look at the title of this thread quickly and see "Porno clip of this week", I swear others had to have read in that way also....But I couldn't see Somer posting that which made it all the stranger for me.
