Be my guest.
As anyone who cashed on Go And Go in the Belmont would know, his sire Be My Guest has been dead for over 4 years.

Please do not try to set a precedent and make this a retrospective thread...

Barn Fire Kills Sire of Countess Diana
by Leslie Deckard

A Sept. 25 fire at Velocity Farms near Benton, La., killed 12 horses, including Deerhound, sire of champion Countess Diana. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Shanna Berry, who co-owns the farm with Sandi Blackburn, said in addition to Deerhound (Danzig—Lassie Dear, by Buckpasser), the Thoroughbred stallions killed included: Banderas (Seattle Slew—Bandore, by Forty Niner), El Lobo (El Corredor-Justine, by Pirates Bounty), Filmore (Concern— Quality Gal, by Full Pocket), and Wild Wildcat (Forest Wildcat—Pent Up Kiss, by Pentelicus).

The remaining horses that were killed were Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, and Friesians.

“You never think something like this could happen to you,” Berry said. “This is one of the worst things imaginable.”

Berry added that three Thoroughbred stallions, Aggadan (Carnivalay—Georia K, by Horatius), Raska Deputy (French Deputy—Raska, by Rahy), and Tigerline (Unbridled’s Song—Silken Cat, by Storm Cat) were turned out in paddocks at the time of the fire and were not injured.

Countess Diana won the 1997 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr.I) the year she was champion.

A necropsy is planned for Sept. 25 on all the horses that died in the fire.

My first thought is sorrow.

My 2nd thought is that I am slow to trust anything or anyone out of Louisiana.

For the record, I've held that view for many years before Louisiana politicians f'd up Hurricane Katrina prep and response.

I'd be checking insurance and "time, motive and opportunity" with a microscope on this one.

If I'm wrong, I really sincerely apologize.

You should have just stuck with your first thought.....

Your 2nd thought was a totally ridiculous & offensive statement on a very tragic situation.

http://www.ktbs.com/news/Racehorses-...-chance-17674/

"Sheriffs investigators and the state fire marshal are investigating the fire at Velocity Farms, which is located off Highway 3 behind Benton High School.
A dog trained to sniff for accelerants went through the remains of the barn today but found no evidence of arson, investigators said. The barn and stalls were made of metal, investigators said. There was hay scattered all over it and the office and tack room were made of wood, firefighters said. The fire is believed to have started near the office, investigators said.
"We don't have any reason to believe this was arson, but we're going to wait and hear from the state fire marshal," sheriff's Lt. Ed Baswell said.
Because racehorses are involved, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was also involved in the case. "

Yeah, cause the kind of things you were imagining NEVER ever happen! Especially in Louisiana.

OK, I apologize in that I see some people might find the thought offensive.

But, I submit others may not.

I think we all know about insurance money and horse harm cases of the past.

Most have heard the stories surrounding Alydar's death.

It didn't get much press connection, but the recent publicly identified mistress of John Edwards also had a family connection to a scheme to kill horses for insurance money. Rielle Burns, the mistress, was the daughter of James Druck. She was raised in Ocala horse country. James Druck was implicated in an insurance scheme to kill show horses. He was fingered by Tommy "The Sandman" Burns in a scheme to electrocute horses so the cause of death might look similar to colic.

I will admit that I have personal feelings and experiences about Louisiana I formed long before Katrina. I'll qualify that I've had some great experiences and met wonderful good people in Louisiana, too. In May I had a great time in New Orleans, and meandered west on I-10 and met some great people in Breaux Bridge. I've worked in Shreveport, and met many Louisiana natives around the country on business and in social situations. As a result, I've often jested with some seriousness that I thought if one was born in Louisiana there was some sort of inherent obligation to tell "a fib" at least once a day. Again, only partially joking.

We can go back to Huey P. Long, to Edwin Edwards, to Eddie DeBartolo and even to Jim Garrison and the Lee Harvey Oswald case and the history of graft, skimming, crime, and lying is well established for Louisiana.

OK. It's established in other places, too. But I think the fabric of Louisiana history makes it natural for some to have initial thoughts of possible criminal intent in this case.

Hokipopter

5yo mare - 18 starts, 3 wins, 5 seconds, 3 thirds

Not the most talented horse around but she always tried her hardest. Her brave and close 2nd at Ellerslie today was one big effort too many for her big heart, and she collapsed on the track after the race. Heartbreaking to watch, but the great memories she gave her owners will hopefully help them get through this.

Any idea why this is the case? Just curious. Is it because of special investigation abilities of the ATF and insurance claim suspicions?

I repeat, suspicions. Not blaming anyone, just curious about the ATF involvement...

I find your suspicions to be extremely offensive and insulting. The ATF is beyond reproach and employs several fine people.
