Freddy just can’t figure it out.

THIS is the shithole country.

The more info that comes out, the worse the police in Uvalde are looking.

That’s because it makes us confront our societal gun fetish. We didn’t do anything after Sandy Hook. We won’t do anything after this.

Freddy represents America. The thing we do after a massacre is worry about access to guns.

So don't you see the reaction to access guns as just that when people are emotional about taking them away? The way I see it, if you didn't have people politicizing a tragedy, you wouldn't have people reacting to their narrative

The way I politicized it? Or the way you are?

I’m noting facts. Nothing gets done after massacres. We are a society of gun fetishist’s.

You are the one using a massacre to complain about your access to guns.

Which one of us politicized this?

No one is trying to take away your guns. Keep them all.

Not every state is New Jersey. This kid was able to go to a store and buy TWO guns, with just an ID.

No background check, no mental evaluation, no waiting period. Again, if I wanted to adopt a pet right now I’d be vetted more throughly than if I wanted to buy an AR-15.

If you can’t see a problem with that, I’m not sure what else there is to say.

What do you propose we do to try and prevent this from happening again? Because it feels like your answer is nothing…which is kind of sad.

40% of the Uvalde's municipal budget and they did everything wrong. Their botching of the response 100% supports the defund concept.

Freddy is of course clueless about what defund the police really means. Essentially, it's the reapplication of monies currently used for militarization of forces towards education and social infrastructure that can reduce crime and confrontation potential differently.

Here's a terrific Brookings piece that explains and debunks the common defund myths: https://www.brookings.edu/blog/how-w...lice-debunked/

So you really think that kind of program would have prevented this lone nutjob from cracking and going on a spree?

And how many years until these programs yield results?
And who protects the public in the meantime?

Every police department has a mayor and some kind of council, they don't operate in a vacuum. Isn't it the job of the elected officials to ensure their police operate fairly and effectively?

We have been defunding since 2020.....can you point out any success storiies, drops in violent crime rates......

Why?
Do you think it would?
You ask Freddie what his solution is, what's yours?

All you seem to do is offer nothing but anti-conservative rhetoric.
Surely a smart guy like you can do better.

I’ve offered up what I’d do many times already in this thread.

I didn’t think wanting background checks, wait times, etc was anti-conservative rhetoric. To me it’s common sense.

You know defunding wouldn’t have stopped this. That wasn’t the point. Surely a smart guy like you can do better.

Yup.
Background checks are commonsense.
Now tell what do we do about the tremdouse number of guns out sold illegally, or stolen?

Gun controll alone won't stop mass shootings.
Defunding now 2 years old.....where are the successes?
What is the point of defunding if it isn't working?

Try engaging in conversation instead of bluster.

If they included educational programs that stem bullying of those with speech defects (in this case) or provide outreach for those traumatized by bullying, yes. Quite possibly.

But it's hard to encourage an environment of empathy when the mocking of the physically, mentally or emotionally challenged is being promoted, encouraged or endorsed. Same would be true of racism.

I always like when you get frustrated. Your spelling gets worse and you start to make even less sense than usual.

No sh.it gun control alone won't stop mass shootings. It's a step. There is no easy fix.

The point of gun control is to make it more difficult for mass shootings. To make it more difficult for people with mental illness to get a gun. Will it totally stop someone who wants a gun bad enough from getting one? Of course not. But it's better than doing nothing.

At some point we need to address the mental illness problem in this country. And people need to be way more vigilant in reporting crazy things people say or do. It takes a village, right? Well this kid left hints. Unless I've missed something, most of his hints were ignored.

THis is a broken country. I'd rather live here, than somewhere else, but it's a mess. Everything is partisan and people have lost their way. The politicians just make it worse. We have no one to trust. No one to count on. EVeryone is corrupt or don't have the best interest of the people when they make decisions.

What is your solution exactly?

Reports today that the police waited in the hallway for a tactical team and keys to enter the classroom because it was locked.

Talk about completely useless.
