I agree in fact one of the tvg announcers made the comment that its been just over a year since he broke his maiden. Think what he has accomplished in a year....

Yeah, right?

I know, I know (contract rules) but it's still frustrating. It was so nice to see the first few races live this morning and then whomp! there's suddenly a bunch of talking heads yammering about Gulfstream.

Of course, if I want better coverage I should become a fan of a different sport, right?

Thank you, Helen Pitts and crew, for working hard to get this horse to the track.

The earnings record should be a piece of cake if he doesn't get hurt.

All of the older dirt horses in America flat out stink - and the 3yo divison is below par.

I am convinced Happy Boy is clearly the 2nd best dirt horse in the world, and Godolphin is probably going to be stupid enough to take him to Europe instead of bringing him to America.

The only way Curlin losses is if he doesn't handle the synthetic tracks.

Largely agree (will withhold judgement on 3yo's until later in the season), looks like a horse who can run on any surface though, doubt synthetic surfaces will bother him...time will tell!

According to the bloodhorse page, they should be showing it on ABC at 2:30.
Except for here in Lexington, KY, The Horse Capital of the World, where ABC is showing a 1/2 hour paid commercial for a steam wrinkle remover.

Sigh .....

Here in Chicago, ABC is showing Country Showdown right now, and right after at 2:30 will be Skiing/Snowboarding: King of the Mountain Super Pipe Championships. Wooo Hoooo! I think I'll go back to watching The Universe on the History Channel, since the Emirates website already told me who won and by how much. Hope my cable company chooses to show the Florida Derby.

Yeah, here in NYC it was also lies! All lies! I turned on ABC to watch Curlin and I got Jerry Rice talking about his childhood.

People can criticize the competition that Curlin ran against, but the fact of the matter is that right now no one is in his league.

Vermilion is a multiple G1 winner in Japan and though he showed little, he was not lacking for credentials. He won his last 4 races against good horses.
I was pleased with Asiatic Boy, I hear he may come to the US. He was very much a proven commodity having swept the 3yo races there last season, then taking on G1 milers on grass in Europe. he's better on dirt and showed it today.
Jalil should have done more but he was very much untested against good runners.

Him getting beaten 15 lengths with a perfect trip in last years World Cup was a little disconcerting to me.

I did think he had a shot at beating Great Hunter home...that didn't happen though.

If Happy Boy was remotely sound and healthy he would have oblieterated horses like Asiatic Boy, Well Armed, and Great Hunter.

Asiatic I believe is going to the States after what happened to him last year... He might have to change trainers for that, Im not too sure. He'll be a very solid 8-9f horse on dirt. I dont think he quite sees the last one home..

Happy Boy looked brilliant in the 1st round, and it could be good that he didnt run today as he was way behind schedule and none of Godolphin's horses ran particularly well. It could have been a disaster for him.
