I'm baffled by Pyro's lack of a run of any sort, but if he goes to Churchill and looks good in his works, I'll use confidently and now I get a price. Anyone remember the 1995 Derby winner came out of the Bluegrass a dull 4th after winning the Florida Derby, then was dismissed at 24-1. Dull 4th isn't a no factor 10th, but on that surface, it's easy to just toss the thing out and be thankful for twice the price.

I don't know if anyone caught TVG.....
Frank Lyons put on a stellar display for the ages. "The way Pyro looks today, they should all be 100/1 against him!" That was just the start of it - after that he got up on horse back and delivered more great quotes. According to the stats in the form, Steve Asmussen trained horses have made 292 starts on a synthetic track - won 12% - and have a $2 ROI of $1.07... a mere 46.5% loss on the betting dollar. That does include his run at Presque Isle Downs last year - where his horses ran mind-bogglingly awful all meet long. I don't know if it's just a fluky stat with a big sample size - maybe it has something to do with shoes for all I know - but he should probably stick to the dirt. His babies seem to run great in the 4.5 furlong synthetic races - his synthetic ROI would probably be under a buck if you take those races out. |

yeah I caught someone else, or maybe it was Lyons, who said that in the paddock Pyro reminded him of Cigar!
the pre-race accolades for Pyro were really flowing heavy. |

The Cigar comparison must have just been a warm-up,
Lyons actually compared him to Mohammed Ali at one point during that telecast. |

yes exactly. as soon as I saw Assmussen at Oaklawn I knew he had no confidence.. isn't it supposed to be a dream of trainers to win the Bluegrass other than that I thought Z Fortune did well to finish 2nd considering his post. am I the only one that doesn't like any horse going into the Derby

could be worse plays than to box the 2 longest shots on the board for the derby

It would be interesting to know what Asmussen's Poly/Dirt % is?
I thought maybe the horse would not be cranked up and in for more of a fitness effort, but 10th? |
