I didn't see that message, but apparently there were a few DT-ers at the 7:20 show last night! We were the ones drinking beers throughout, while my ladyfriend was pretty much in tears from the time Barbaro wins the Derby until the end. Really a great documentary in the insight it gives into the real human element of the horse racing business.

Sorry to miss the other DTers in attendence last night. I really enjoyed the film a great deal and highly recommend to those who have not seen thus far.

Great little cameo by the Bykster and Dale Romans and family are a real trip. And I really liked the ending. Going out on a limb. Nicanor is my 2009 Derby horse.

The Preakness is handled with class even though it was so hard emotionally watching Barbaro run like he did and strut everywhere he went and yet knowing the ending to the story. I think the people that aren't into racing will still enjoy it just to see what goes into this process and much like life it changes day to day minute to minute. Unreal movie.
thanks for this thread, its here this weekend. i'm definetly going. i just wanted to hear from people that have seen it. sounds like fun !

Comes out today at a small theater by my house in Muskegon, lucky for me it will be playing until next Thursday, which is my Birthday and when I will see it. My parents use to be into horse racing, but have not been for the past 15 years I'd say, so when they asked what I wanted to do with them on my bday I told them I wanted to see this movie with the family, who knows, maybe it will spark them back to the game.

Saw the movie last night @ the Saratoga Film Forum, very little place with a sold out crowd. The movie was great! a must for every thoroughbred fan to see. Great job by the "brothers" from the beginning of the derby trail right to the big race. Covered every aspect; funny, serious, exciting & sad. A real peoples view of getting to the race..... The "hard nosed" New Yorker (Amonte), the funny Kentucky connections (Romans), the west coast trainer & what he has overcome (Hendricks), the Southern gentlemen (Holthus), the mild mannered teacher (Matz) and the trainer coming back to the states after success across the pond (McLaughlin). The Roman's family was especially entertaining.

I hadn't had the chance to mention this, but John Hennegan himself was selling - and autographing - the DVD of the First Saturday in May at the Derby. He was a really, genuinely nice guy, and I didn't hesitate in buying the DVD from him. I'd encourage everyone to get themselves a copy of the movie, it's certainly well worth the $20 bucks or so.
