I don't understand how that's up to him. That's going to be determined by his starters. Sometimes, the starter just can't locate. You can do what Joe did Friday, and wait until the game is out of reach, or you can go to the pen. Neither option is good, but in the post, I think you have to get Billygoat out, because he has a history of showing up to pitch without any ability to locate like a major league pitcher(as I said, he did exactly the same thing in Pittsburgh last month.) This is nothing unexpected with this pitcher. I've seen him do it many times, an obviously Joe has too. Well, I have only watched this manager for one year, and IMO his main fault is he waits too long to yank starters(especially in situations like Billygoats the other day.) It's not Like Lowe hasn't done exactly what he did the other night. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280806124 If you saw that game, you'd of been begging Joe to take Lowe out after that 1st home run Thursday Night. Joe repeated this mistake. Didn't learn his lesson from this game against St. Louis. Yes, I'd of yanked him in both games (after the 1st home run.) Then, last month Billygoat put up this incredibly bad effort: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=280917123 He gave up 6 earned runs in 4 innings, but Joe ignored that this last Friday, and sat there while the guy repeated it. Don't get me wrong. They aren't playing well. It's not the manager's fault that Lowe threw batting practice in the 6th inning, or that Furcal choked a throw so very badly. It's not his fault that Billygoat could do no locating after the 1st inning on Friday. I'm just saying that he has seen this before, and he repeated the same mistake of leaving them in too long. He's a "pitcher's manager." Pitchers like to stay in there no matter how badly they are pitching. Then, they feel just as bad (or worse) later when they have given up 6 earned runs. They are gunna feel bad either way(you yank them earlier than they want, or wait until after they've bombed.) There are times when Billygoat is throwing walks, and has a high pitch count, but can keep getting out of trouble. A manager gets paid to be able to distinguish that from a total lack of location. You can't just sit there when somebody is throwing stuff down the center against a good team. |

OMG.......You just can't do this crap. Wow..........He's been sporadic from the beginning of his career here. How can he do that? Anybody would of hit those pitches. The pitch Chan Ho got beat on was a major league piece of hitting. Everything else was just bad pitching galore. No wonder Billygoat keeps having a blown start in every 3rd or 4th start. He hasn't progressed mentally. Still the same guy with incredible stuff, but a weak mind. Whoever gets this guy to mature, will get a 20 game winner. I'm starting to doubt if it's gunna be us. I have seen the same act for over 2 years. His stuff is getting better, but he is not maturing mentally. Chicago would have probably got to him if we didn't get the errors and key hits early in game 2 against them. I doubt Billy's breaking stuff would have been biting like it did that night. He's just not professional enough to be dominant, but he has dominant stuff. I'm guessing, if we traded him to St. Louis, he would win 20 games next year. Just a wild guess. That's a 20 game winner type that keeps getting in his own damn way. When you call out another player(on your own team) it's like giving your opponent intravenous B Vitamins. Thanks, for killing our chem. Didn't this catcher call all 3 games against the Cubs(pitching staff gave up 6 runs in 3 games,) but he is calling the wrong pitches? Your responsible for the pitches that leave your fkn hand. Grow up(please.) "All of a sudden, strange things happen," Torre said. "Very unexpected and certainly something that we certainly weren't prepared for. ".................Oh, come on. It was a very real possibility. He's either great, mediocre, or awful(I would give those probabilities of 15%, 65%, and 20%.) Get your head outcha a-s-s. Last edited by SCUDSBROTHER : 10-12-2008 at 02:33 PM. |

![]() I would rather tune into a 65 and over curling match than watch a World Series between the Rays and Phillies. The Breeder's Cup is now in no danger of losing any Horse racing fan to this ratings debacle the World Series will turn out to be.

Rays-Phils will be interesting for the local Florida fans as I'm sure there are tons of Phillies fans in the greater Tampa area because of Clearwater and its' long ties to the Phillies organization as winter home.
