The biggest problem with giving to charity is the insane amount of other charities that start sending you stuff and calling. I was a heavy contributor to the "Send Isiah Thomas to Iran" charity. Now the "kill Gillespe committee" is after me for funding.

I don't usually get involved in this but this is a little much. I may not give money to A.C.O.R.N. or other such helpful social charities but it does not mean republicans don't give to the United Way, Food banks, and medical research.

And I'm not saying you, or others don't, but that wasn't my point from above

So if they are suffering anyway now is the time to push through more class warfare legislation because the economic downturn and Bush can be blamed in the end? I cant understand how you and Bob keep referring to the super wealthy especially since we are talking about people who make 250k or more, the vast majority who wouldnt be considered super wealthy. And in case you hadn't been paying attention to the news a lot of the super wealthy arent so wealthy anymore...

If you believe what Obama is doing is right for this country you believe that there will be more money to donate by all classes in the near future. You are focusing on one aspect of his plan as the logic for a decrease in charitable donations when I think that is part of the package that will help everyone out. Which in turn helps out charities. You guys are being too miopic.

If you are talking economically, there is really very little evidence that what he is doing is right or will work, especially in the short term and considering how screwed up the rest of the world is too. If he is wrong then this is possibly disastrous for some charities. At the very least you have to admit the timing is premature considering that it is far from a sure thing to believe that hes policies will actually work. Of course as Roit said it is doubtful that Congress will pass a bill that could be spun as anti-charity.

In 2000, brows were furrowed in perplexity because Vice President Al Gore's charitable contributions, as a percentage of his income, were below the national average: He gave 0.2 percent of his family income, one-seventh of the average for donating households.

Now that's the Democratic Green Way and to think what could've been.

Bob you didn't grow up with any conservative neighbors? What's becoming more and more common in this new administration another fact-check. And this is a doozy:

Brooks, a registered independent, is, as a reviewer of his book said, a social scientist who has been mugged by data. They include these findings:

-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).

-- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.

-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.

-- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.

-- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.

And again Al Gore 0.2 percent

High-pitch had some sniping little con rep on the radio program yesterday.

Too bad these cons couldn't muster this kind of spunk when they had control of everything (and pretty much did nothing) for years.

Given the horrific state of the economy when Bush-Cheney left office, cons just don't have much street cred at this point...

Being in the middle means being mediocre.....can't do it! I didn't vote for the Fraud...which is EXACTLY what he is if he can't do what he said he would do. I'm not going quietly into the night while the country falls to sH%T.

Borrowing a line from Dennis Green.....OBAMA IS WHAT WE SAID HE WAS!!!

Just roll another doobie and don't answer then! You're a much better handicapper than I, but that seems to be the extent of your value. I'll be watching for your hard-hitting commentary on the worlds' problems, too.
