I did see this in a Euro race and I cant find it.
So strangely enough I looked up Horse racing oddities

William Antongiorgy (did I spell that right?) won his first race at Hollywood Park after he lost his irons. He even stayed in a crouch. Is riding regularly up north (Bay area) these days.
