call ahead. a tour is no problem it was only us and two other guys. but definitely call ahead of time. most anyone will take you around, but they do want a bit of notice.

that's why we didn't get to tour lane's end tho..they only offer tours on fridays, and we had to leave friday am. everyone else pretty much offers tours every day except during really hectic times such as weaning. go to claiborne dot com and get the #. i e-mailed three chimneys and set it up.

or better yet....here's the link:

Thanks, my wife is in the Wedding, so instead of sitting in a hotel room by myself while she gets her hair and makeup done, maybe I'll go do this. That drive past Claiborne going through Paris is really cool, it's like a tunnel of trees.

I know that they are also doing tours at Old Friends Equine in Georgetown. I would love to go and check that out too.

we saw rahy, the groom brought him by, soon as he saw me with the camera he put on the brakes and posed. started walking again, up came the camera, he stopped again. what a ham.

i was lucky enough to find a print (and a low # too!) of seattle slew standing by his monument at three chimneys. it's a shame things went south like they did between the taylors and the farm...he should have been buried at 3 chimneys, not hill n dale.

We also got to see Nureyev, they had pictures of his rehab, that was really neat.

Hey Kev, the tour is free. You have to call the farm and make an appointment. We had to schedule ours 6 months in advance. But it is worth the wait.

Default Mr Prospector #1 sire

Funny, I was thinking about Vindication about 2 days ago. The horse that won teh Juvenile when they ran it at Arlington Park. The distance was longer because of track configuration. 9 furlongs. Everyone was talking about how you would get a better Derby picture of the contenders because of the extra 1/16th of a mile.

Not only did Vindication not make it to the Derby. None of the runners hit the board in the Ky Derby. Maybe the distance or maybe the track surface did them all in. I'm sure someone will say it was the MRLS.

Mr Prospector, like it or not was #1. I have always heard that you want Raise A Native on the sire side for Ky Derby winner. Having Mr Prospector or RAN on the Dam side was the kiss of death until BARBARO destroyed everything. For a one pace horse (the kind that aren't supposed to win the Ky Derby) he made the Ky Derby look like a joke.

I never liked Awesome Again but his babies do very well.
Everyone gets excited about AP Indy sired horses and they bet them 1st time out but I seldom see them win any sprints.

I like reading about the horses at the Farm.

one last thing .. Sometimes the first foal of a dam is a bit small.
Serena's Song first didn't win much. There are several mares that won the Distaff with so so babies.

Yeah, Three Chimneys is pissed about that. They still have a statue of him our in the lawn. Plus they still have his name plate on his stall.

Isn't she though?

I'm glad to hear Pulpit was a good guy when you visited Claiborne. One of these days, I'll have to see for myself.......and, of course, visit his daddy. I can't believe Indy is 17 years old. I still have his BC on tape - and it still gives me chills.

seattle slew made three chimneys...but three chimneys made him as well. it's a shame it all ended the way it did. it's a nice place. but if i ever have the chance to have a horse stand at stud, i'd rather him be at claiborne than anywhere.

Nope, I do as well. All of the ones I like don't sell for shiat at the sales... peds are too "boring."

I'd rather a sound, slower developing horse that one who develops too quickly and has a short career.

Speed kills

guess that's the problem
slow horses have less risk of injury

I only worry about horses that run at Delmar, Arlington or are trained by a certain someone that seems to have more than his fair share of $ big mega buck $ breakdowns
