![]() Thanks for the link to the petition!
The east coast is (finally) catching up with the ban. Unfortunately VA (aka dumbest state evah) introduced a bill last year banning the sale and possession of shark fin, but it never made it out of committee. I wrote the sponsor of that bill to see if he would reintroduce the bill and never heard back from him... Maryland has an active bill for this legislative section and a search of other states can be performed here if anyone is interested in writing in their support: http://www.bornfreeusa.org/b4_legislation.php |

![]() Great book, indeed. The Russian, Nabokov, knew more about America than the average American.
"Lo, the poor Indian." "Our glass lake." And the single best anagram in all of literature, Vivian Darkbloom, a character in the novel, is an anagram of Vladimir Nabokov. By the way, who eats killer whales anyway? Last edited by Ocala Mike : 01-23-2013 at 12:53 AM. |

I mean there are so many layers to the cruelty here it is despicable. Do you have any idea - this retirement plan which is posted and in such detail... is anyone listening? I'll do what i'm sure you have done and call / email every single contact on there but man... utterly heartbreaking. * * * On a lighter note... love is blind. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ocks-wild.html |

Who does their pr? Same geniuses as racing? The answer stares them in the face. This could be the great event of the year. They announce they will be closing down, have a nationwide contest... you know like "best improvement idea" or something and get it out there in the schools... (give the winner a trip for the reopening)... Annonce that they will take the lead, they will set Lolita free, start marketing the route (aka the space shuttle Endeavours trek through LA), selling I don't know banners etc. for a minimum $10. donation... I have a friend who, every time we get together, we try to come up with stuff. My last idea was since McDonalds now lists their calories, etc. (I don't eat that crap, for the record!) they should have shiny new whatever the things are called that tell you what you've ordered and the amount... that info should show up there so it's right in front of you. She disagreed, saying no it will make people stop eating it. No it won't! If you're in a drive thru and that's what you want you WILL order it. At most maybe change the fries from large to medium or something, right? But if that is what you're there for no it won't. BUT it will make them look like the first fast food company to really care lol. It it marketing. Same thing here. This goes on and on and on and so change it, set the poor thing free BUT do it with pizzazz... rasie and spend money, improve the whole place, make it the premiere attractoin AND the one that is kind and beneficial for sea creatures. I mean there has got to be a way. It's frustrating and it's like the Wise Dan thread all over again. Why is marketing so difficult for some to understand? Set her free and make it a huge national event. This would work. Everyone benefits. (THis of course because obviously they lack souls and heart and need to have some profit from doing what is right). Sighty too bad we can't go down there ourselves and do it huh? ![]() |

![]() not sure if anyone saw the article out a few days ago about some supermarkets in the u.k. finding horse meat in their 'beef' products...just saw this about burger king:
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2...t-scandal?lite LONDON -- Burger King said on Thursday it had stopped using one of the firms caught up in the scandal of supplying British grocers with hamburger that contained horse meat. The British food industry has been rocked by the revelation last week that retailers including market leader Tesco and smaller chains Aldi, Lidl and Iceland had sold beef products that contained horse meat. Food safety experts say horse meat poses no added health risks to consumers, but the discovery has raised concerns about the food supply chain and the ability to trace meat ingredients. The discovery of horse meat could be both embarrassing and damaging for the retailers involved. The mass-selling Sun newspaper carried the Burger King announcement on its front page Thursday with the headline "Shergar King," in reference to a famous racehorse that was kidnapped and never seen again.

The United States will support proposals at CoP16 to restrict unsustainable levels of international trade on manta rays and five shark species--porbeagle, scalloped hammerhead, great hammerhead, smooth hammerhead, and oceanic whitetip. Populations of the five shark species are declining because of demand for fins for food products such as soup and medicine, while manta rays are being overharvested to meet demand for their gill plates. |
