my point on JS is that one needs to be cautious in the breeding. i suppose that goes for any breeding. 2 yrs ago i recommended JS to a friend for her mare. of course i was ignored.

I think thats where you are missing out on some racing facts.
Calling Jump Start unsound would be like calling a football player unsound whose caoch made him play with a fractured ankle that turned into a broken one.
He started early, and showed precocity that many Ap Indy's don't show.
Theres a difference between an unsound horse and one who gets run into the ground by its trainer.
Do you recall his campaign?

big difference between a horse suffering a catastrophic injury, and unsoundness. easy goer was unsound, as was ghostzapper. toccet was run into the ground, wasn't necessarily unsound. his story imo comes close to jump starts.

Its funny, there's a topic going on another forum about how race records can be real misleading. One lady stands an A.P. Indy son in a regional market and it only shows one start... instant reaction is yet another son of a top stallion that was so unsound he couldnt get out of his first start without injury... in reality, it was a bandage bow.

I like to think it was a misguided campaign that ended his career, but to play Devil's Advocate, his female family has a lot of unsoundness issues. Just saying...

Granted the sample is not that big, but if you get to watch 10-15 horses work who are by the same sire, that gives you a decent sample. With Orientate, I must have watched at least 15 of his 2 year olds work at the sales in February and March and at least half of them could really run. With some of the other sires, it was more like 10%.
I look for Orientate to have a big year next year as well. I am waiting on his best colt that I have seen to start, and for his best filly to come back. I knew that Allude had gotten hurt when she ran horribly in the stretch in her last start. She still hasn't worked, and I hope that she makes it back to the track. I also like Asmussen's filly Successful Outlook. She just ran a solid third in a stakes race and has some nice wins. Overall, his babies are doing very well.

Sure they were all champions until they stepped in a hole, ran into a fence, kicked a wall, bandaged bowed, etc.......

Personally Without starting a huge debate I really never liked JS Between his first crop and the Yearlings I have now I have been around 8 or 9 of them and to me they are all just horses. Which does not mean they are bad horses. It just means that I thought they were nothing special.

And Yes he has had what is it 19 or 20 winners but the main Point everyone seems to be forgeting is that JS has not had 1 repeat winner.that is amazing especially on Dec 1st. JS is the only Freshman sire in the top 20 that has not had a repeat winner.

Not having a repeat winner just goes along with what I thought about them last year when I was breaking the several JS that I had that they were just horses. Eventually he will have a stakes winner but I cannot get very excited about a freshman sire who has not had a repeat winner when he has had 20 horses break there maidens.
