He actually had a horse entered at Belmont ( I think it ran once or twice ) that had been racing in Phili.
I think he's not too popular with a lot of people ( at least in NY ) anymore. |

I always got along with Tony, but I also wasn't involved with him financially, which perhaps might have made things different. I'll say one thing, the trainer for that operation, when they used to win, was terrific. But as he wasn't listed I won't say his name.....I will leave that to Mike as I'm sure he won't be able to resist. |

He sold that horse he had entered who scratched named Tease. Shes in at laurel today in the 7th race.
He actually won some grade ones including the Whitney, Malibu, and that grade one grass race with Turk Passer. That seems like a very long time ago. |

Joe was incredible, they made a lot of private buys and made a fortune. They bought one for 35 g's named something like Foreign Intrigue that they gelded and won two races with and then resold for 500 g's. They had some other nice ones like Olympic cat and Tornado Cat and Copper Mount who won the NY Derby and Albany handicap. Silver Fox(of the famous bar shoe off silver foxes) won a nice stakes race as well. They went their own ways and the whole thing crumbled. Anthony is training a couple now, I talk to him. He was out of the business for a long time and hes got a few horses now. Lets just say the days of the fancy breakfast at the barn, the limos, the champagne parties etc are all gone. |

Who was the longshot that nearly beat HOUSEBUSTER in the Forego Stakes at Saratoga. After that effort he became a pretty good older sprinter (and decent sire) and won the Fall Highweight that year.

You must remember the great claiming trainer from the mid 80's - Oscar Barrera. When I starting playing in 1986, he was "the man". If Oscar claimed a horse, it would be a "mortal lock" next time out. He trained a critter named WICKED WIKE back in 1990. This ol' boy raced 120 times at age 8 with just 9 wins, but 30 second place finishes. Back then it seemed that horses ran more often and later in age, especially the cheaper claimers. Won a lot of money with the OSB "hot pink & black" silks!

Yeah, I got Purple Mountain and Pumpkin Moonshine mixed up. Vinnie the Viper may have been Klesaris...at least I think he was at one time.
That sprint on Fourth of July weekend used to be a big event at Finger Lakes. Here's one about Groovy.....he finished second in the second division of a split Gotham ( I think it was split ) in 1986 only to be disqualified. Who was the easy winner and what fradulent big race winner was placed second? |
