Rest in peace.
I have been told there was another in a training accident the day before, I don't have the name though....
Also have been told these are all occuring in the same area on the track, but can't confirm.

"Track superintendent Brian Jabelmann said he examined the part of the track where the breakdowns occurred and found no problems. "I didn't see a thing,'' Jabelmann said. "It was just one of those things. It was freakish. And the same trainer ... not that it would have been any better if someone else had lost a horse. It's hard to get over the shock of one, then to have another one go.''

Doesn't seem freakish to me if these are occuring in the same area.

RIP to all...already a tough year.

Lancettier.

He'd started his career in Argentina...

http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_D338.pdf

... and went on to HK.

http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/O...p?HorseNo=D338

Apparently he died at the end of December, in a race in Australia.

He was 9 years old.

Pump Up, a four-year-old maiden winner for trainer Steve Margolis, sustained an open cannon bone fracture during a workout on Sunday morning and was euthanized.

An unraced three-year-old filly trained by Mark Casse broke down with a shattered rear pastern on Monday morning and was euthanized.

Wisdom And Luck. The 6-year-old Paraneck Stable mare finished distant eighth, then dropped dead from "cardio-vascular collapse" pulling up after the race. She entered this 15G claimer with 1-for-22 slate, was beaten 20 lengths last out for 10G tag and lost five of her previous six starts by double-digit lengths.
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01262009...ocs_152098.htm

She could have used a little wisdom in her training, and some luck. Obviously she had neither. She raced 3 times this year and earned $287 for Paraneck.

I figured I'd be "that guy", but it just hit me that Barbaro has been gone 2 years today...

Here's a link to the Barbaro fund page if anyone is interested in making a donation. http://www.ntra.com/ridingwithbarbaro/

On Jan. 9, Prado was aboard a 4-year-old first-time starter -- like Barbaro and Nicanor, owned by the Jacksons' Lael Stables -- named Peter O', which had to be euthanized on the track after fracturing an ankle while rounding Gulfstream's turn.
