![]() ![]() He's never done well at HAW...don't know why they just didn't wait and run him here next week. I'm sure he's fine, but will ask next week...they said he was going to be retired after this run. |

![]() His name was Dilek (FR) and he had been trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre in France where he'd hit the board 5 of 6 times (he had won 4), beating horses such as Champs Elysees home.
http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_H110.pdf When the infamous Stanley Ho of Macau bought him, he changed his name. Comic Strip had become Viva Pataca and later when Kid Mambo was acquired his was changed to Viva Hong Kong... Dilek (who was also trained by Moore) became Viva Macau. An awfully nice horse, he kinda becamse the 2nd banana to his more-famous stable mate. He always reminded me of the little brother or sister who could never quite measure up. For some of us who grew up being the youngest, it's easy to relate. Viva Macau raced 29 times in HK and once in Dubai. He only won 2 (hit the board an additional 4 times), but his fans will never forget the barrier trial where he beat Viva Pataca home. It was wonderful. His greatest moments.... winnng the Class 1 Sa Sa Ladies Purse... ![]() October, 2007... http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2007&raceno=08 October, 2008... http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2008&raceno=08 He retires with a rating of 109. Thanks for the memories. ![]() |

Lovely NZ mare - 33 starts, 10 wins. In 2008 she had a 7-race winning streak, 4 of them at G3 or G2 level. I'll miss her. |

![]() His name is Down Town although he had originally been Hantu.
http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_G054.pdf He came to Hong Kong in 2005 (trained by Dennis Yip) and worked his way up to Class 1... in his first G1 he was 4th (Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint which Absolute Champion had won. The legend Silent Witness was 2nd and Benbaun 3rd. He beat some extraordinary horses such as She Is Tosho, star from Japan, home). This is his finest moment... (from October of 2007) I think racing fans who don't follow Hong Kong know a lot of these names. http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2007&raceno=09 THE SHA TIN TROPHY (HANDICAP) HK$ 2,300,000.00 1 10 DOWN TOWN(G054) D Whyte C H Yip 120 1105 4 - 1.33.10 14 2 4 GOOD BA BA(E201) O Doleuze A Schutz 126 1090 11 1-1/4 1.33.30 8.4 3 9 EGYPTIAN RA(E002) G Boss D J Hall 121 1181 7 1-1/4 1.33.30 17 4 5 JOYFUL WINNER(E045) C K Tong J Moore 120 1080 1 1-1/2 1.33.30 31 5 8 BULLISH LUCK(C155) K L Chui A S Cruz 115 1234 10 1-1/2 1.33.30 24 6 14 TIBER(D155) Y T Cheng J Moore 111 1082 13 2-1/2 1.33.50 35 7 1 VIVA PATACA(G096) D Beadman J Moore 133 1134 5 2-1/2 1.33.50 7.8 8 13 ROYAL PRINCE(H072) B Prebble A S Cruz 116 1213 3 4 1.33.70 2.3 9 11 VITAL KING(G222) M Nunes P O'Sullivan 120 1137 14 4-1/4 1.33.70 45 10 2 THE DUKE(B282) W M Lai C Fownes 127 1174 9 4-1/4 1.33.70 23 11 6 FLORAL PEGASUS(G011) G Mosse A S Cruz 124 1212 6 4-1/4 1.33.70 8.5 12 3 ABLE ONE(G108) Z Purton J Moore 126 1158 12 4-3/4 1.33.80 12 13 12 ART TRADER(E131) K Shea J Moore 118 1088 2 5 1.33.90 69 14 7 SIR ERNESTO(G051) F Coetzee D Cruz 124 1200 8 8-1/4 1.34.40 31 He retires with a rating of 115 which puts him right around #24 in the Top 50 HK runners.
