Verrazano
“Verrazano was found to be lame after the Eclipse and although it is not a significant injury, time would not permit us to have him ready for the Breeders’ Cup so the decision has been made to retire him,” said Aidan O’Brien. “ http://www.coolmore.com/verrazano-retires-to-ashford/ |

Feel better, sweet boy. Youthful Jack suffers career ending injury 19 Aug 2014 | Racingandsports.com.au Youthful Jack, the evergreen million dollar prize winner trained at Taree on the NSW north coast, has suffered a career ending injury. The Ross Stitt-trained nine-year-old broke down with a serious sesamoid injury in a track gallop. Youthful Jack Horseform required emergency veterinary treatment for the injury to his off fore. ”We will be able to save him but he won’t race again,” Stitt reported. It has been a rollercoaster 48 hours for Stitt after he won Sunday’s Casino Cup with Single Spirit. On Monday his last start Coffs Harbour Cup winner Southern Shimmer was hit by a mystery leg infection, ruling him out of a start in next Sunday’s Taree Gold Cup. Youthful Jack was also set to start at the Taree Cup meeting. Youthful Jack won 18 of his 74 starts, including Group and Listed races in Sydney, Queensland and Tasmania and prizemoney of $1.144,200. http://www.thoroughbrednews.com.au/s....aspx?id=75078 |

Unreachable Star, 64-17-11-9 for $784,595. Loved following this Indiana bred, trained by Tim Glyshaw:
"Though I always knew this day would come it sure doesn't make it any easier. Today I have to announce the retirement of Loosen Up Stables 10 year Unreachable Star. He suffered a soft tissue injury while galloping at Churchill Downs Sunday. He will recover fully and have a second career yet to be determined. What a cool cool horse. Tons of heart, desire, and personality. Star retires as the all time career indiana bred money earner of more than 780,000. He is a multiple stakes winner. An amazing feat in itself but consider he broke his maiden and won his Ind bred 1x when those purses were like 13k and 14k. I remember each stake he won and most races he won but was never prouder or when he beat 4 stake winners (one a graded stakes winner) in an alw 3x at Churchill Downs a few years ago with Calvin Borel aboard. He got a step slower as he got older, but showed his heart in what will be his last race when he ran a good third a long odds in the AJ Foyt Stakes. The winner and place horse's ages combined was less than his. I first have to thank the owners- Loosen Up Stables David Osborne, Loren Hebel-Osborne and Chuck Beeber. And secondly my wife Natalie Ardoin Glyshaw who has been with Star the entire time as well. I want to thank everyone that worked for us and contributed to his success. Also want to mention the jocks won won races on him: Leandro Goncalves, Rafael Hernandez, Orlando Mojica, Victor Lebron, Marlon St Julian, Calvin Borel, and Mathieu Adam. Wow what a ride from that first start with him 8 years ago at Turfway Park. I am so happy that he retires from our barn and will be 100% sound with some time off. He has meant the world to us. Don't know how ill handle not having him in the first stall outside the office to see, talk to, and play with everyday. Tough. On Oct 1 Indiana Grand Race Track and Casino is going to honor Unreachable Star and he will be paraded in the paddock, have some words said about him, etc. I am sure if people want to get their picture taken with him or want to let their kids feed him a peppermint we will be able to do that. Please come by and send our old man off to his retirement the right way. Thank you." |
