"Why wouldn't it fit AGS well?" might be the better question. He just beat a G1 with three horses better than anything he'd probably see there.

Not sure if anyone posted this already but AGS ran a 115 Beyer. . . Nice!

travers 'unlikely' for AGS--pletcher mentions the brooklyn or jcgc as possible only start before the classic.

Well the purse of $500k is very decent, he wouldn't have to beat very much in there (if Curlin goes the purse is $1mm and AGS just demolished Curlin). It is 9f on Sept 22 and the Travers is 10f on Aug 25th which gives AGS plenty of time to rest between now and then and it would be a perfect prep (in the sense of time) before the Breeders Cup on Oct 27th. He wouldnt have to face Street Sense and he wouldn't have to face older horses.

Heck, the JCGC could be a nice race. If AGS goes in the JCGC, I wonder where Lawyer Ron will race next?

Much as it pains me to say it, the JCGC has really turned into a pretty lousy race over the last few years with every good horse trying to avoid each other prior to the BC. Last year it was Bernie against 4 Grade 2 and 3 horses. Yawn. I doubt the Robot wants to run AGS 10 furlongs until they have to. Ditto for Lawyer Ron. I would think LR's next race will be the Woodward, the Saturday before Labor Day.

I think Lawyer Ron will most likely stay in the 8.5 - 9f range, with an eye on the 1m70yd BC race this November.
I think AGS has more of a future at 10f than Lawyer Ron, so the JCGC makes sense for him. AGS's running style and his dam-side pedigree (AP Indy, Spectacular Bid etc.) suggest that despite his fairly flat performance at 10f in May, he may be effective at that distance going forward.

It's not.

I came back with the same number (115) when I made my projection.

I'd guess AGS goes to the Brooklyn and Lawyer Ron to the Woodward and they both go to the BC Classic from there. Pletcher seems intent on giving no thought to any historically significant races late in the racing season in his quest to bring every horse into the BC "fresh".

Sniper,
I'm not sure what races out there have more historical significance than the Woodward unless it's the JCGC. I agree, though, it's a shame that what used to be the Fall Championship Series has been reduced to a couple of prep races. Hell, the Marlboro is gone. Alas, I lament.
