Coach, what's up with all the world records? (some by more than 1 second, even after a "bad start") Are the speedo's that good?
Track&Field records never get broken by that much.

it was covered earlier in the thread, these new suits they're wearing have a lot to do with it.

In order to prevent me from curb stomping a random stranger and pretending they're a poster on this forum I'm going to say it's 100% the suit. It's a symbiote.

I <3 ESPN.

Also...

Outside of Phelps and the relay the times aren't getting smashed. Since 1996 you can track the progression of Olympic swimmers and you'll notice how much depth there is now compared to 1996. This helps explain the dramatic drop in time on the free relay. The suit and pool have a little to do with it.

I ordered a LZR racer and will test it out. If I drop a significant amount of time I'll let you guys know. Doubt that will happen though.

Also, can you get me that chick Coughlin's # for me... I want to see if I can handle a beast like her!

Also, is Phelps really a human or some kind of alien? He is double jointed in about every area.. even his pud is double jointed. That man is rediculous he could probably win 8 golds in swimming and then go win mens gymnastics.

Soon when he flaps his arms before the race he's going to take off flying like a bird!

I was at 2000 trials in Indy when he was 15 and watched him give Malchow all he wanted in the 200 fly. He's definitely an alien.

She sure is sexy... I've got a new breast stroke technique and I want her opinion.

I will admit though I thought she was going to get caught at the end. That Zimbabwe girl was moving and Coughlin looked like she was about to bump in to the divider thingy... shoot or just end up in a different lane! I was screaming at my TV... I missed watching the relay sunday night so I vowed to not miss anymore cool pool events.

Excited for Diving.. hope Laura can pull off her magic once again (like 2000) though it probably wont happen... If there is anything to be learned though from swimming the past few days its never give up!

USA, USA, USA!!!

Pants you are a ****in encyclopedia of knowledge on an incredible number of subjects. You should be making a fortune on what's in your head and the info you get from the connections you have from the people you know.

I am constantly amazed at how good you at getting to the bottom of things you work on. I know your a pretty damn good gambler but you could probably make a living with less risk given what's in your head.......

I don't understand why it took them so long to develop this kind of technology. There's no current restrictions against it, right? They spend millions on developing similar suits for skiing and have done so for a long time. The difference in skiing any speed event in a "high tech" speedsuit vs. a "low tech" suit, or worse yet, anything with drag (like a jacket, or sweater) is as high as 15% time reduction.

Then again, the geniuses who design skis didn't realize a parabola is easier to arc than a straight line for 100 years so I guess I shouldn't be surprised

During the National Anthem for the men's relay, shouldn't they of had the camera on the guy who made up ground in the anchor leg? Guy flew home for that Gold, and it's pretty poor journalism to keep showing Phelps during the National Anthem of that particular awards ceremony. They fkd that up. Even if the guy was being boring or unattractive(in their opinion,) I think he still deserved that time on camera. They should make a public apology to that guy. The other 3 guys combined for what was gunna be the expected Silver Medal(they gave him a deficit.) He made up that deficit on the best. That should of been about him. I guarantee you if he inherited a lead of that amount, then he would be blamed if he lost that lead. The 1st three Americans would have been said to have put forth Gold worthy efforts, and he would have been said to have put up a lesser effort than them(I feel the opposite took place here.) I know it's supposed to be about the team, but if the camera is gunna be on somebody during the National Anthem, then it should of been him. The other 3 did what was expected(combined for 2nd place going into the final leg.)

Coughlin had a great start and took it out fast and held on. She's lucky Coventry had a bad swim. It's that U.S. and A relay momentum I tells ya.

Just DO NOT post any pics of you in that suit and everything around these parts will be just fine.
