Eagle Mountain saved me this morning. He got a dream trip and won easy.
Viva Pataca got into some shocking traffic troubles. Lush Lashes got very bothered in the gate, stumbled down the back stretch and got a very iffy ride by Manning. She was allowed to come home in her own time.

I have to say it is one of the best days racing anywhere all year. HK does it so well, the commentary is brilliant, the presentation is excellent, their form guides are 2nd to none, it is just an all round superb program. It does help as well that the locals love backing their own horses..
Good Ba Ba must be the highlight, he was electric..

Congrats to Stormcat for Good Ba Ba, and Brockguy for Eagle Mountain. I didn't win any of the big 4 races, Jaguar Mail didn't disgrace himself and overall I'm just pleased that one my favorite Jockies Christophe Soumillon well probably the only Jockey I like... won back to back races. Well done Hong Kong.

Well done indeed, as CSC said and yeah like Brock said...one of the GREATEST days.
Wow some longshot in the final. Paid $836. Full of Joy, Mosse up. Nice for anyone if they had it! http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...no=10&venue=ST Epilogue... incident(s) report (excerpt, related races only)... Nice that Lush Lashes was found to be okay right after. I'd assume she'll be checked again today... Race: 4 (229) THE CATHAY PACIFIC HONG KONG VASE Group One 2400 m MUHANNAK, which was fractious in its stall, was slow to begin. In the early and middle stages, MORES WELLS travelled wide and without cover. Approaching the 2200 Metres, AMBITIOUS GENERAL and JACKPOT DELIGHT were checked when crowded for room inside MORES WELLS (D McDonogh) which shifted in initially of its own accord and then was carried in further by DOURO VALLEY (D Beadman) which shifted in when not properly clear. As the Stewards could not be satisfied that one rider was responsible for the incident, both D McDonogh and D Beadman were severely reprimanded and told they would be expected to exercise greater care. Approaching the 2000 Metres, PURPLE MOON was steadied away from the heels of DOURO VALLEY. D Beadman was told to exercise greater care. Throughout the race, JACKPOT DELIGHT proved difficult to settle and near the 1000 Metres was shifted out and allowed to improve its position. Near the 100 Metres, BUCCELLATI was momentarily steadied away from the heels of DOCTOR DINO which shifted in. C Soumillon (THE BOGBERRY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of MUHANNAK, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. C Soumillon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 5 January 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the racemeeting in Deauville, France on Sunday 21 December 2008. In addition, C Soumillon was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. DOCTOR DINO and PURPLE MOON were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that POSEIDON ADVENTURE had lost its right hind plate. Race: 5 (230) THE CATHAY PACIFIC HONG KONG SPRINT Group One 1200 m SUNNY POWER began awkwardly and got its head up. On jumping, from a wide barrier, NIGHTLIGN was taken back. D Whyte (ENTHUSED) pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding in that commencing to make the turn at the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WAIKATO, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In answer to the charge, D Whyte submitted there was still sufficient room for WAIKATO to remain racing on his inside had the horse been racing truly and not been hanging out. He called J Saimee, the rider of WAIKATO, who said that his mount shifted out at this time towards the heels of ENTHUSED and it was for this reason WAIKATO was checked. Having in mind of the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it appropriate to sustain the charge. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, WAIKATO hung out. Near the 200 Metres, TOSHO COURAGE was momentarily steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SUNNY POWER. After the 200 Metres, ENTHUSED got its head on the side and shifted out. At the 150 Metres, C Brown (APACHE CAT), which was being shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running, momentarily dropped his left rein. In the Straight, APACHE CAT hung in. APACHE CAT, INSPIRATION and GREEN BIRDIE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that APACHE CAT had lost its left hind plate. Race: 7 (232) THE CATHAY PACIFIC HONG KONG MILE Group One 1600 m BULLISH CASH began awkwardly and bumped with GOOD BA BA which shifted in. LAA RAYB was slow into stride. After the 1000 Metres, KIP DEVILLE was left racing wide and without cover, making the turn at the 800 Metres hung out, making the Home Turn hung and in the Straight hung out badly. Because of this, C Velasquez was at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. On straightening, PRESSING was bumped and carried wider by ABLE ONE which shifted out into clear running. Over the concluding stages, GOOD BA BA hung in. ARMADA, GOOD BA BA and ABLE ONE were sent for sampling. Race: 8 (233) THE CATHAY PACIFIC HONG KONG CUP Group One 2000 m BALIUS was slow to begin. LUSH LASHES, which was fractious in its stall, began awkwardly. Making the first turn, BULLISH LUCK was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TRINCOT. G Gomez (OUT OF CONTROL) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 1600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LUSH LASHES, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. G Gomez was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 21 December 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension is with immediate effect. In addition, G Gomez was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. Near the 1100 Metres, SIGHT WINNER became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room between HAWKES BAY and TRINCOT. For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, SIGHT WINNER raced tight inside TRINCOT and on several occasions became unbalanced. After the 800 Metres, LUSH LASHES was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 600 Metres, SIGHT WINNER was steadied away from the heels of TRINCOT. I Mendizabal (TRINCOT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SIGHT WINNER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. I Mendizabal was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Friday 2 January 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension is with immediate effect. On straightening, ARTISTE ROYAL and VIVA PATACA bumped as both horses endeavoured to improve between SIGHT WINNER which was giving ground and HAWKES BAY which shifted out slightly. From shortly after straightening until after the 200 Metres, LINNGARI was held up and unable to improve. After the 400 Metres, LUSH LASHES, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between TRINCOT and EAGLE MOUNTAIN. Passing the 300 Metres, HAWKES BAY was steadied when disappointed for running between ESTEJO and TRINCOT, then after the 200 Metres was again steadied when disappointed for running between SIGHT WINNER which when giving ground was carried in slightly by LINNGARI and VIVA PATACA which shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metes, ESTEJO, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room between HAWKES BAY which shifted in slightly and VIVA PATACA which shifted out. C Soumillon (BULLISH LUCK) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at about 50 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LINNGARI, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of OUT OF CONTROL which as a result was checked. C Soumillon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 15 January 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until Monday 5 January 2009 on which day he had been eligible to resume race riding following a suspension from riding in races incurred in Race 4 today. In addition, C Soumillon was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. For the majority of the Home Straight, ARTISTE ROYAL was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not tested. Throughout the race, OUT OF CONTROL travelled wide and without cover. D Beadman (VIVA PATACA) explained approaching the first turn he took his mount back to a position trailing EAGLE MOUNTAIN. He said when that horse improved its position slightly along the Back Straight, he continued to follow it with BULLISH LUCK racing to his outside. He said it was his intention to follow EAGLE MOUNTAIN forward after the 800 Metres as he believed that horse would carry him forward into the race. He said near the 700 Metres EAGLE MOUNTAIN shifted out to a three wide position and commenced to improve. He said he started to follow EAGLE MOUNTAIN forward, however, BULLISH LUCK maintained its position to his outside which prevented him from shifting out. He said shortly after this SIGHT WINNER received interference in front of him and as a consequence VIVA PATACA was hampered. He said when this occurred BULLISH LUCK went forward of him on his outside and SIGHT WINNER did not improve. He said as a consequence he was held up and unable to improve around the Home Turn. He said on straightening he continued to race inside the heels of BULLISH LUCK and when running presented itself on the inside of SIGHT WINNER, he immediately endeavoured to improve into that position, however, was disappointed for running and he therefore at the 400 Metres shifted in further to the inside of HAWKES BAY and then ESTEJO. He said however clear running did not present itself for VIVA PATACA until the 150 Metres. He said in his opinion it was not possible for him to shift to the outside of the field rounding the Home Turn as LOUP BRETON had improved its position and meant that it was not possible for him to steady his mount to come back to the outside of BULLISH LUCK. LUSH LASHES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LUSH LASHES after the race did not show any significant findings. VIVA PATACA, EAGLE MOUNTAIN and BALIUS were sent for sampling. The Stewards intend to interview Jockey K Shea (EAGLE MOUNTAIN) regarding him having some fluid following the race and prior to weighing in. 2. Fines Race 4: Coumillon (THE BOGBERRY): $40,000 for careless riding near the 100 Metres. Race 8: G Gomez (OUT OF CONTROL): $80,000 for careless riding at the 1600 Metres. Coumillon (BULLISH LUCK): $40,000 for careless riding at about the 50 Metres. 3. Severe Reprimands Race 4: D McDonogh (MORES WELLS) and D Beadman (DOURO VALLEY) for shifting in approaching the 2200 Metres. Race 9: C Soumillon (STILTON) for shifting in for some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres. 4. Warnings Race 2: D Beadman (CRAIG DRAGON) for shifting in passing the 900 Metres. Race 4: D Beadman (DOURO VALLEY) for shifting in approaching the 2000 Metres. 5. Suspensions Race 4: C Soumillon (THE BOGBERRY) for careless riding near the 100 Metres (22 December 2008 ?5 January 2009 on which day he may resume race riding ?3 Hong Kong racedays). Race 8: G Gomez (OUT OF CONTROL) for careless riding at the 1600 Metres (15 ?21 December 2008 on which day he may resume race riding ?2 Hong Kong racedays). I Mendizabal (TRINCOT) for careless riding near the 600 Metres (15 December 2008 ?2 January 2009 on which day he may resume race riding ?4 Hong Kong racedays). C Soumillon (BULLISH LUCK) for careless riding at about the 50 Metres (5 ?15 January 2009 on which day he may resume race riding ?3 Hong Kong racedays). Photos... http://www.cxhkir.com/english/hkir20...ject_mode=#pic Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint - Post Race Reaction 1st - Darren Beadman - Inspiration - "He jumped into the bridle and I was in the right spot, tracking the favourite, when I pulled him out he sprinted really well." 1st - John Moore - Inspiration - "I only put him in for the run at the last minute. We weren't expecting an invite for him and I thought he was making up the numbers. I'm still pinching myself that we won it. But I guess it shows what can happen when you have a fit horse and a great jockey. Darren gave him the ride of the century. " 2nd - Olivier Doleuze - Green Birdie - "He ran well, but he's a difficult horse to ride. He needs a horse to race with, and I was behind the winner, and the winner didn't crack. I'm looking forward to being on him again when he goes up to a mile in the Stewards' Cup next month." 3rd - Corey Brown - Apache Cat - "No excuses, he hit a flat spot as he always does in his races, but then he ran on again, but just didn't have enough petrol in the tank today." 4th - Douglas Whyte - Enthused - "He ran well, up to his form, but the draw didn't help me, I was working overtime out there." 5th - Brett Prebble - Sunny Power - "He ran super, but the barrier never helped us at all. He needs to get a better position than what he had." 6th - Davy Bonilla - Marchand D'Or - "It's been along year, a break could have made a difference. I have no excuses. He blew up." 7th - Kevin Shea - Mythical Flight - "He ran well but five furlongs is his game. When he got to the last furlong he sort of emptied on me." 8th - Hirofumi Shii - Laurel Guerreiro - "He ran very well, but the level of this sprint was just so high." 9th - Kenichi Ikezoe - Tosho Courage - "He was close to the leaders, but he didn't have the same turn of foot as the winner." 10th - Terence Hellier - Abbadjinn - "He picked up a bit at the end, but he never really got into it, they were going too fast." 11th - Gerald Mosse - Nightlign - "He is a lovely horse, who turned in a really nice effort, and he has twenty lengths improvement in him." 12th - Jim Crowley - Moorhouse Lad - "We thought he was a five-furlong horse and that is what he is, but I enjoyed the experience." 13th – Jumaat Bin Saimee - Waikato - "He went okay but he was very awkward on the bend." Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile - Post Race Reaction 1st - Christophe Soumillon - Good Ba Ba - "I'm very happy to have won the race, but I’m feeling sorry for Olivier (Doleuze), but these things happen in racing. I have ridden some horses with a good turn of foot, and maybe he's not Zarkava, but winning this race today for the second time makes him the best miler in the world." 1st - Andreas Schutz - Good Ba Ba - "I knew he was in the same form as last year but to win like that and break the track record was beyond my expectations. I think I'd like to keep him in Hong Kong for the big mile races here next year but we will think about going to Dubai for the Duty Free." 2nd - Darren Beadman - Able One - "The winner was just too good, and maybe my horse was just one run short, but we hadn't been able to squeeze another race into him. Still he has run very well." 3rd - Felix Coetzee - Egyptian Ra - "He's run his usual honest race but the winner was back to his very best." 4th - Olivier Peslier - Spirito Del Vento - "He was a bit cold early on, and I couldn't follow the pace. I was trying to track the winner, but his kick was too much for us. 5th - Yusuke Fujioka - Super Hornet - "He felt lethargic today and he was never comfortable. He didn't answer me at all and couldn't go forward when I asked him to." 6th - Douglas Whyte - Armada – “Very disappointing. He was left flat-footed by the winner." 7th - Weichong Marwing - Joy And Fun - "It was a good run to finish in midfield. He's a nice horse but this class finds him out." 8th - Richard Hughes - Major Cadeaux - "He ran a good, solid race but it was a pity we didn't quite get into the money." 9th - Cornelio Velasquez - Kip Deville - "It was just the wrong way round for him, and he was never tracking comfortably. He was on the wrong lead." 10th - Neil Callan - Pressing - "He travelled well, was fine turning in. He usually has a turn of foot but he was very quiet today." 11th - Christophe Lemaire - Natagora - "No excuses in the run, at least for the moment. She had her head down at the finish, maybe she was just tired." 12th - Garrett Gomez - Awesome Gem - He was lost out there, he was changing his legs, he was confused. He ran OK, but not up to my expectations. 13th - Royston Ffrench - Laa Rayb - "They went very fast as they usually do. It took him time to get going, but by then it was all over." 14th - Mick Kinane - Bullish Cash - "He wasn't able to lie up. They were going too quick for him."
