LOL, yes, it definitely takes a lot to 'paint' the GOP as racist. There's clearly no fodder for that.

I also don't understand the 'un-American' thing. Not that I'd expect you to have an explanation.

While, yes, we can all probably agree that nearly all of the country's hardened, hell-bent, racists are Republicans, this op-ed is hardly full of $hit like you want us to believe it is.

Nobody from the South calls a grown man with a degree from Harvard and a chance to be President "boy" on accident. And the fact that only someone who has no idea at all, whether from life experience or study, that this would not be done on accident completely explains your knee-jerk, pathetic defense of it.

While I admire your zeal and blind defense of anything Republican and white, the fact that you're totally ignorant of the problems from and consequences of using the word "uppity" and "boy" to talk about a black man isn't exactly my/our fault.

What is it going to be...like a 5% racist vote at most? And this will cost Obama the election?

Look...

if the democrats can't hold 53% of the vote in this election then they can whine about racism until the end of time. The real reason why they lost is because they are incompetent and borderline retarded.

Yeah, interesting. I always enjoy reading Brent Staples and happen to find him one of the more intelligent gentleman in his industry. Do I always agree with everything he says? Obviously not. No doubt the NYT is a liberal and left leaning news source, but I love reading it. I'm never above reading a different point of view from mine. But IMO, he is spot on when he says this:

Mr. Obama seems to understand that he is always an utterance away from a statement — or a phrase — that could transform him in a campaign ad from the affable, rational and racially ambiguous candidate into the archetypical angry black man who scares off the white vote

He makes no mention of this, but I truly feel the opposite is in effect for McCain/Palin. I think the two of them must tread lightly in regards to the things they may say about Obama. Don't think for a second that the left wouldn't take anything either of them may say regarding race and run with it, Given the chance to paint either of them as racists, the media would light into them.

The sad thing is we are having this conversation in 2008.

The latest news is that the DNC racists are flocking away from the Obamesiah

un-American or anti-American in that they sound like Pravda and Al Jazeera

Didn't read the whole article so I guess it was knee jerk for me to see that it was the New York Times.

Just think that the story only gets printed because of what letter (R) they have next to their name.

I don't consider McCain a republican. I don't consider Bush one either. Well he reminds me a lot of big governent Nixon and little bit like Jimmy Carter. You know Jimmy Carter ran as a separatist so I guess that is a Georgia thing.

so if I vote for Bob Barr does that make me a racist?

This is an ignorant statement. Right now, Obama is holding leads in every state John K. won in 2004, and has flipped the states of IOWA, NEW MEXICO, AND COLORADO. Not saying it has to stay that way. New Hampshire could possibly flip to McCain, but that would result in a tie. When Obama is behind in 3 or 4 of the recent polls in Colorado, then come back to write your statement. Atleast it will be based on some fact, or even questionable evidence. You look stupid writing it now. It's based on hope, and hope is an immature emotion. That's why Jessie Jackson always pushed it. It's based on nothing.

The story gets printed because some asshat called Obama "boy," not because someone was a Republican.

And that's a racist dog whistle....and since he may be our President, it kinda makes it a story....

I agree. We are in a bad war with our economy teetering on the brink and we have a Republican president with the lowest approval ratings in history. On top of this, the Republicans are trotting out the most pathetic ticket in the history of modern elections.

And some how, some way...it is a virtual dead heat.

Amazing.

I'm curious who the Right/Bob Barr's think the Dems could have trotted out as a Prez candidate who would have been a "better" candidate for the Left and who might have a 8 pt lead in the polls now?
