Yeah, it looked like that. Wasn't enough of a difference to get her up for first but might have got her a little closer. Very encouraging finish. Nice work by Team Simon.

Just watched the replay on Calracing, nice effort and fits well at this level. She may like it longer.

a gutsy effort by the little horse tonite at TP. She ran a strong race from the 1/4 pole home, while being covered up early on. As Riot said after the race " The light bulb may have come on for her tonite ". Very nice ride by Diego and a great job by Team DT getting her ready. Only 4 partners on hand but many family and friends in tow made for another really fun nite. 1$ beers on Fri. nites always brings a great crowd to the Florence track. Hopefully we can do it again in about 3 weeks. Congrats to everyone involved.

Just got back from OTB

I thought she looked great in the post parade. Thy didn't have the audio on for Turfway. I think the harness people only wanted to hear their races.. anyway.

It looked like maybe the other horses were going to gather her up late and she took off after the winner.

Not bad at all.

It was fun tonight - never have been at Turfway, boy, it was packed until the end! (those $1 beers I guess). Serious smokers, gamblers, and beer for everyone!

I thought Rampillion looked really good in the paddock, almost like she's growing a bit in her hind end, and was well-muscled. She calmed down and got serious as soon as TC saddled her. Down the straight she really seemed like she had the 11 in her sights. I thought she was a bit proud of herself when she came back, too (but hey, I anthropomorphize )

Thanks TC & Chuck! Nice start to 2009!

Mike Battaglia had the 11 as his #1 pick for the race. And Black Mystic added blinkers for the first time which probably helped her win. I think that Mike will think twice next time when handicapping and a DT horse is in the line up. ;-)

Watching the race again, I saw Ramp with a great deal of energy and determination throughout the race but even more so in the last furlong. :-)

Post race info...

Rampillion came out of the race in perfect shape acccording to TC, and jockey Diego Rodriguez told Chuck she did everything she was asked.

Rodriguez said she was eager early and wanted to go, but grudgingly followed his direction to be patient. The apprentice rider also said 'Pills' was unaffected by taking poly residue in the kisser and was especially game once the real running started the last 3f. He also believes she will be happy to stretch out.

All in all a very satisfying performance after a wasted start at the end of the Churchill meet. Supporters of the Lime and Royal got back $11.00 and $7.80 for their PL-SH punts.

Chuck will shop for a spot for a next start for Rampillion in about 25-30 days.

Race replay is available thru Calracing.com, though I have not been able to figure out how to post a link to the video.
