Yeah, looks like all Va laws were followed. There will be a lot of debates that will occur...gun control, campus security, mental health...many issues. Right now, the mourning needs to occur...hearing stories about so many of the victims...the brave Holocaust survivor who gave his life so his students could escape, wonderful young folks who were apparently just in the wrong place at the wrong time...too sad for words.

My thoughts and prayers are for the families and friends of all the VT victims.
May those who had their lives taken find eternal rest, and the survivors find healing. I found the story of Liviu Librescu, a 76 year old holocost survivor, engineering professor, who blocked the door and gave his life so that his students could escape to be inspiring. His sacrifice came in circumstances so many years after a different insanity, yet in this one, his life gave life to save others. I am truly saddened by this tragedy. I heard these words today, "the memory of the righteous is a blessing". After hearing that, I had to turn off the tv. I couldn't see it anymore. I had too many tears. Rest in peace the taken, healing for the remaining, and for the rest of us, the preservation of the memory of the righteous. Lord bless. |

This gentleman...Mr. Liviu Librescu...a hero indeed.
Can you imagine surviving the holocuaust....escaping the wrath of the most evil human being that has ever walked the face of this earth...only to be gunned down later in life in a tragedy such as this...all while trying to save the lives of others.... you are a true hero sir... |

I agree completely. Not to get "preachy", but in my beliefs, I think there is a "higher power", One that put us on this blob of mud for a purpose. One that makes meaning out of the meaningless. When Mr. Librescu's time to do that which he was saved to do, he did not hesitate. His life had meaning. "No greater love can be shown than a man lay down his life for others."- Jesus |

i'm not an emotional person, not one who is sentimental (at least, not generally regarding humans, horses on the other hand....) or prone to tears...but this whole deal....
when they first replayed someones cell phone recording, i really thought i was going to lose it. it is such a horrible, rotten thing to have happened. to have someone so off, so out of it, to be willing to go and do this to those poor people. it's awful. my oldest is in connecticut, my first desire was to call him--i haven't seen him in a year. not going to see him til july, i can only imagine the gut-wrenching TERROR the parents of every v-tech student felt when they first heard the news. there is nothing in the world scarier than having children! believe me, it's true. it doesn't get any easier when they get older, i promise you! it's very humbling. they can take you to your knees in a hurry. it's funny, even when we go out, and it's been several years we've been able to go out sans kids. you walk thru a store (or wherever) and hear a kid yell 'mommy' and you know damn well it isn't your child, you still turn around!

Librescu,
What can you say about a man who lays his life down to save his students. That to me is just beyond heroism. I propose that this man be given a state funeral and be held up in the highest regards at VT forever. When everyone was running out and thinking only of themselves, he thought of everyone but himself. Wow such a sobering thought and a great example of oure love.

he is someone that i would not hesitate to call a hero. that label gets thrown around so easily. but if anyone deserves it, it's him.
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

This whole thing is some ****ed up ****.
Fact is that a situation like this is impossible to defend. When someone breaks, you just have no idea. Fact is that in the college environment, where everyone is chill and you are subconsciencely taught to avoid distractions, something like this is plausible. Being a former college student, this is just overwhelming. This dude just needed to get stoned more. |
