Whatever I decide to go with for a speed figure, and the Beyer is definitely in the ballpark, the pace figure will be much lower, about 16 points. In other words, the race was over very early.
I don't think anyone needed numbers to know that.

Fabulous Strike ran fast but still hasn't won off anything close to a contested pace.
You'll never see a horse get a softer pace trip than he did this weekend.

I agree that he won with yet another smoke and mirrors kind of trip.....but what more could he have done? It's his 4th straight stakes win, all with his ears pricked while never asked.
He is a tactically gifted horse...but like you say....he may not look like the greatest thing since sliced bread if he gets hooked by a couple inferior speed balls and is softened.

I like the horse. A lot. They've run thousands (tens of thousands?) of 6f races at Churchill and his is among the handful or less of fastest ever. And he can only beat what's thrown his way.
I'm looking forward to the Smile. I'd like to see him draw inside and take pace pressure. So far, he's run admirably when doing so but no more than just that. Personally, I'll be hoping he does so.

When they finally put him in much tougher races, and he hooked some of the best sprinters in the country---he beat them because he simply didn't have the same kind of horrible trips he kept getting against much lesser horses. I realize you know this...but I'm only saying this so the silly comments about class---and the silly comments about "good horses always have good trips" doesn't start back up.

I'm only talking about the winner. The horse was in last behind a pace very similar to that set by Fabulous Strike in the Aristides. Despite that, he was able to run down the pace setters and get up late in a time only .02 off that of FS.
The figure I gave him, 110, compares very favorably to the 113 I gave FS when you consider the trips each had.

Benny the Bull is a really nice horse.
His number came back 111 with a 1 rag for his efforts against the Maggi Moss horse.

I'm surprised that number came back as a 111 for Benny. The track seemed like the Bonneville Salt Flats that day. The other 6f race on the card went in 1:08.68 The 6.5f race went in 1:16.51 and the two 7f races went in 1:21.54 and 1:22.73
I feel that anytime u can have two sub 1:09's and a sub 1:22 on a card and it's not the Summit of Speed day at Calder, the track is playing crazy fast and the numbers mean a little less to me.

Benny the Bull, the horse that we touched on about a month ago came back in very impressive fashion in Iowa. He was in the Iowa Sprint stake and inhaled the field the last 16th. 110 for his effort, and the time was 108 and some change. I think he is a horse for us all to keep an eye on down the road. Hes now paired up his breakout performance at CHD, beating the Ronny Warner horse that ran second to fabulous strike pretty easily
