Curlin is a very nice horse

heck, I can still visualize his maiden win at Gulfstream. 9/5 or 5/2. Trained by Helen Pitts. I keyed him on top. Curlin kinda blew the turn drifted out to the middle of the track, gathered himself and took off for an easy win.

3rd in the Derby
1st in the Preakness... Curlin looked huge when he came back to get Street Sense.
2nd in the Belmont (a short head from a win)

1st in the BC Classic (all alone)

hopefully 1st in the DWC

Curlin looked awesome and can't wait for the Big Race..

In 10 years from now, this horse will be considered one of the greatest ever to step foot on the track. Enjoy him.
no he won't.

The Haskell was a clunker but other than that he's never run a bad race, the Derby was a very respectable effort all things considered. The rest of the races were excellent to outstanding. Let's be serious... there isn't a horse in the States that can warm him up right now.

I liked Robby's approach to the race, put him in the clear, just do enough, save the big run for the DWC.

Robby Albarado deserves as much credit for this horse's success as I do for the Giants Super Bowl win. Give me a break Phil.....you're a LOT smarter than that.

I'm talking about this race in particular, no need to do anything stupid and get the horse in trouble before the big one. Hell I could have rode him to victory in half his races

I like Phil's backhanded compliment for Albarado's ride today. I interpreted it as "He didn't screw up and get checked three times by being cute like he does so often"

Yeah Robbie should be commended for not getting the horse in trouble...

This is pointed out because the jockey colony in the states is that bad.

To me jockeys are like referees... the less you hear about them, the better. I honestly believe you can count the number of "good" jockeys on one hand right now (Prado, Corny Velasquez, Gomez, ??)

It's just scary that Corny and Gomez are considered top jockeys. Sure they're good, but the fact there isn't anyone outside of Prado that's better is scary.

he spent all year in the same company, beating hard spun in the fall by the same distance street sense beat him in the spring. the top older horse last year was lawyer ron, if that helps keep things in perspective. curlin is good compared to the rest of the crop, but i don't he'd stack up very well against horses over the last few years, let alone the last century or so.
i think jess jackson did a very smart thing in keeping curlin in training, since all the other horses who could make him run a bit all left the scene. just like invasor at this point last year. and i'd take invasor over curlin....

hell, i'd even put bernardini over curlin at this point. staying in training at four, altho i appreciate it, does not make him a better horse.

When has the jockey colony in the US not been bad to horse players?

I have one name...

Garrett Gomez
