Because if our conference is strong, it validates the strength of my own team. The last thing we need is the rest of the SEC coming across as 'weak.'

It must be the NY in me but i could never root for a rival team. Especially if my team was in the natl'y title game. I would root for them to get killed and look bad doing so because that will help your team in the long run.

As a Dolphins fan I always want the Jets to lose
as a Knicks fan I always want the Celtics to lose ( and any team ever associated with isiah Thomas again)
As a U of AZ alum I root for AZ state to lose every game in every sport. Ditto for Stanford.
Astros fans are self loathers so we dont really have any real rivals

thank you.
i'm an lsu fan, not an sec fan. and i don't get all the drooling when someone dares suggest that the SEC isn't the top conference. i don't get points for agreeing with that-who cares? i hate arkansas, am ambivalent about most of the rest.
i'm a redskin fan, you think i pull for their division rivals when they play? note the avatar, it doesn't happen. why some root for all the sec teams is beyond me.

i find that to be ridiculous. lsu is probably pictured as weak this year because they barely beat troy, and lost to the pathetic razorbacks.
fla might be viewed as less than stellar because they lost to ole miss. i agreed when someone said texas deserved to be in the title game ahead of fla, since their lone loss was to the #2 ranked team, while the gators lost to an unranked opponenent.
now, i did think the gators would beat bama, which they did-but i didn't root for either team, as in the end, i just didn't care who won. main reason i thought fla would win over bama is that fla beat the living mess out of the tigers, who almost beat the tide.
i expect texas tech to beat ole miss, but i do expect bama to beat utah. again, don't care tho.

To each their own. I can't argue against your opinion, but my opinion is different. I want Florida to be seen as playing a tough schedule ... not a cupcake one. The teams within a conference and their wins against out of conference teams are what makes a conference strong. If Florida played against teams like Syracuse, Navy etc. all season long, I can guarantee you that it wouldn't count for much. JMO.

the only teams in the conference that i REALLY root against are Bama's true rivals: auburn and tennessee....2 other schools i can't stand, nd and wvu.
i consider myself a knowledgeable college football fan. i enjoy the whole game. so i can root for other sec teams in bowl games or games outside the conference. the problem with a lot of fans they don't follow the whole game. all they know is their team. you should see the looks i get from other Bama fans when i say i've been to annapolis, west point and a 1AA semi-final at Delaware. they don't get it and don't know what they are missing, because all they know is Alabama football. my best friend in Birmingham is like that. he'd go watch a high school game but not another college.

I took my 7 yr old to the Va. Tech - BC game last Saturday because it was close to home. We rooted for Va Tech because my daughter liked their band better than BC's during their pre-game shows. I just wanted to see a competitive football game. It was fun and I'll be back for next year's ACC championship game even though I can care less about any team in the ACC.

Yes Scav, she got her ice cream in the 3rd quarter. Who am I to deprive her?

Back on subject. I'm with Cajun, I'm rooting for other SEC schools in the bowls to help the perception of the confernce. I don't have enough energy to hate another school. I would be thrilled if the SEC won all of their bowl games.

Got to get the Ice Cream eating machine in full form for the Tampa meet, and multiple ice creams that GPK told me was going to buy her

Not knocking anyone, just making the observation. maybe its a Southern thing though in KY it is hard to find anyone who roots for KY and Louisville. In NY a true yankee fan wont only root against the Red Sox but the Mets too.

I'm like you in this regard: I root against everyone in the Steelers division and anyone they have a percieved rivalry with (Patriots, cowboys raiders,etc..) I'm a Philly Flyer fan, therefore I root against the Penguins which makes me wildly popular in my hometown. I root for Pitt which makes me want Joe Paterno and his band of criminals to lose every game (especially since Paterno was the man responsible for ending their yearly game).

I agree with DDTide and Bigs in the fact that the sports are still great no matter who is playing and if an attractive sporting event comes to town, I will go with friends or family.

I have no baseball rooting interest since Pittsburgh lost its MLB team in 1992.

Maybe it is a college thing for me. I have plenty of professional teams that I hate.
