![]() Biggest news evah!
Of course this is late but whatever... Her name is Sweet Sanette and she won. Uh, it's been over three years since a girl won. (Oh and I got the official number... there are 4 fillies / mares over there). http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...eno=8&venue=HV Trainer Gary Ng Ting-keung declared his four-year-old mare Sweet Sanette (Greg Cheyne) a Group winner in waiting after she allayed any fears about handling turns with a course record-breaking victory in the final event over 1,000 metres. The mare bounced straight to the front and never looked like being headed despite getting herself very stirred up before the race. "I wasn't worried about her sweating up, that's just her," said Ng after the two-and-a-quarter-length romp. "In terms of talent, she's as good as they come and I believe she will be a Group horse here in Hong Kong. The only downside to her is that she can be temperamental." ![]() 12 months?????
Inquiry into a sample irregularity - Jockey K L Chui 18 February 2010 The Stewards today concluded their inquiry into the analyst's report in respect of the urine sample supplied by Jockey K L Chui, as directed by the Stewards, at the Happy Valley race meeting conducted on 20 January 2010. Evidence was today taken from Jockey Chui, and Dr T S M Wan, the Club's Head of Racing Laboratory. Jockey Chui also tendered written evidence at the inquiry. Dr Wan reported on 25 January 2010 that the portion of the urine sample supplied by Jockey Chui which he analysed contained ketamine. Ketamine is a prohibited substance (jockey) in accordance with the Rules of Racing of The Hong Kong Jockey Club. After having been informed of the analyst's findings, Jockey Chui advised that he wished to have the reserve portion of the sample tested by an independent laboratory. Accordingly, the reserve portion of the urine sample was forwarded to the Laboratoire des Courses Hippiques, France for confirmatory analysis. On Monday, 8 February 2010, the Stewards received a report from Dr Y Bonnaire, Director of the Laboratoire des Courses Hippiques, stating that the analysis performed by that laboratory confirmed the presence of ketamine in the reserve portion of the urine sample. Jockey Chui was today found guilty of having breached Rule of Racing 60(1) in that the sample of urine supplied by him, as directed by the Stewards, at the Happy Valley race meeting conducted on 20 January 2010, was found upon analysis to show the presence of ketamine. The Stewards decided in the circumstances of this case the appropriate penalty was for K L Chui's jockey's licence to be suspended for a period of 12 calendar months, such period to expire on 25 January 2011. ![]() ![]() Jockey Chui was advised of his rights of appeal against this decision. Jockey Chui was also advised that notwithstanding his right of appeal, should he submit an application for a jockey's licence to the Club in the future, the Stewards would recommend to the Licensing Committee of The Hong Kong Jockey Club that he be required to appear before them to "show cause" why such licence ought to be granted. Jockey Chui was further advised that the Club would provide him with assistance in facilitating the undertaking of professional counselling in respect of substance related issues. Poor kid. ![]() |

![]() This sucks.
http://racing.scmp.com/freeservice/n...s20100219b.asp * * * ... and then there's this.. ![]() Friday, February 19, 2010 Insults fill air as Cruz and Doleuze clash on sacking Alan Aitken Another sacking for Olivier Doleuze as the rider of Good Ba Ba yesterday descended into a public slanging match between the angry Frenchman and the champion miler's equally fired-up trainer, Derek Cruz. Brett Doyle will partner Good Ba Ba for the first time in the Citibank Hong Kong Gold Cup on Sunday week, while Christophe Soumillon last night replaced Doyle on Thumbs Up. The latest, and apparently final, chapter in Doleuze's partnership with Good Ba Ba ends a story that saw them win five Group Ones, including the 2007 Hong Kong Mile as part of a clean sweep of the big miles that season. Controversially dumped before the gelding's second Hong Kong Mile win in 2008, Doleuze returned this term to win a history-making third Hong Kong Mile, but only after receiving specific undertakings. Yesterday, Doleuze criticised Cruz and owner John Yuen Se-kit, saying: "They have no honour. This is bull****. When I agreed to ride the horse again, the only condition was that I ride him for the full season. Of course, there was nothing signed - men keep their promises, but these guys are not men," raged Doleuze. "I was unhappy the first time I was sacked by [previous trainer Andreas] Schutz but I'm more upset now. I thought Derek was a straight guy, but he has done the same - I was the last one to know again. And I've already called the owner to tell him what I think of him." However, if Doleuze was angry, Cruz was as ready to back his sacking over tactics when third to Fellowship in the Stewards' Cup. "Olivier isn't the only one p***ed off - I am, too. Horses like Good Ba Ba make jockeys, not the other way around. He should remember that. I feel sorry for him but c'est la vie!" Cruz returned. "Any jockey could have ridden Good Ba Ba better than Olivier this season. I said I wanted him closer, but Olivier wanted to ride him how he wanted - who does he think he is? This is a champion, a public favourite, and what must people betting on him think when he is being put in impossible positions? "Olivier says the horse is older and doesn't have the same turn of foot now - well, more reason why he should be ridden closer." Doleuze defended his Stewards' Cup ride, when the eight-year-old had limited options from an outside draw. "What could I do from barrier 12? I had to go back and the horses in the finish all came from the back with me anyway," he said. "Hong Kong can be cruel. I'm having a quiet season and Good Ba Ba was my only sunshine - now I have only have this bad memory." The public falling out is a far cry from 2001-02, when Doleuze debuted with 26 winners from just 141 rides, mostly for Cruz, who enjoyed his best season and finished fourth on the trainers' table with 44 wins. "When Olivier came here I was his only supporter, but he doesn't remember that now. I will never put him on my horses again," Cruz said. http://racing.scmp.com/freeservice/n...s20100219a.asp |

![]() HKJC stewards interview Derek Cruz and Olivier Doleuze 20 Feb 2010
ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk Hong Kong Jockey Club Stewards on Friday interviewed Trainer Derek Cruz and Club Jockey Olivier Doleuze regarding the contents of an article which appeared in Friday's morning's South China Morning Post. In particular, the Stewards questioned both parties regarding criticism by Mr Cruz of Jockey Doleuze's handling of Good Ba Ba in the Stewards' Cup conducted at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 31 January 2010. Mr Cruz stated that whilst he had not given any specific instructions to Jockey Doleuze on how Godd Ba Ba should be ridden in the stated race, he did advise Jockey Doleuze that he hoped Good Ba Ba would be "in front of two or three horses". He said he was disappointed that Good Ba Ba, which had drawn the outside barrier, had travelled at the rear of the field. Jockey Doleuze stated that after beginning well from the outside barrier, he formed the opinion early in the race that Good Ba Ba would not be able to race in a more forward position without being obliged to race wide and possibly without cover. He said for this reason he elected to allow Good Ba Ba to settle at the rear of the field, following Collection, a horse he considered to be one of the main chances. He said having in mind the fact that Good Ba Ba was drawn wide and the anticipated tempo of the race, he believed that he was left with no reasonable option other than to allow Good Ba Ba to settle at the rear of the field. He further stated his belief that his decision to allow Good Ba Ba to settle at the rear of the field with cover was justified as it was apparent to him after the race that Good Ba Ba would have been required to travel wide and without cover were it to be ridden in a more forward position. On the day of the race, the Stewards took no exception to Jockey Doleuze's handling of Good Ba Ba. After viewing the video with both Mr Cruz and Jockey Doleuze today, the Stewards confirm that they are not critical of any aspect of Jockey Doleuze's ride, given the horse's wide barrier draw, Good Ba Ba's usual racing pattern, the likelihood of Good Ba Ba being required to race wide and without cover had it been ridden more forward, the fact that Good Ba Ba followed a favoured runner in Collection, and that the tempo of the race was always likely to be strong. During the course of the interview, the Stewards also questioned Mr Cruz and Jockey Doleuze regarding various comments attributed to them in the stated newspaper article, particularly those attributed to Jockey Doleuze. The Stewards advised Jockey Doleuze that whilst they were cognizant of the fact that he had apologized to Mr Cruz during the course of today's interview and had shown a high level of contrition for the comments made in the article, he nevertheless should at all times be mindful of his requirement to ensure that he conducts himself in the best interests of racing. Further, both Mr Cruz and Jockey Doleuze were reminded of their obligations as licensees to conduct themselves properly at all times irrespective of the circumstances they may find themselves in. |

Winning Reward (the former Weld-trained Favourite Nation)... 9 year old warrior. Probably his best moment... http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2007&raceno=10 The Challenge... The CSL Million Challenge will reach its climax onWednesday (24 February) when owners of the three most consistently successful horses at Happy Valley since September are rewarded for their outstanding performances. This is the second year of CSL's three-year sponsorship of the CSL Million Challenge and it has been a great success. After five months of tight and competitive racing, there are still several horses with a chance of bagging the bonuses of HK$650,000, HK$250,000 or HK$100,000 respectively for the top three points scorers. Nine of the top 10 contenders have been entered for this Wednesday's Happy Valley meeting and racing fans are ensured of some hard-fought and thrilling battles. The Dennis Yip-trained Loyal Army is the current leader of the CSL Million Challenge. Loyal Army has found his new world at the city track by scoring three wins and two thirds from six starts this season. He recently picked up a significant 15 points by beating Always Something as well as fellow Challenge contender Good Strike. With 53 points, Loyal Army is seven points clear of his nearest challenger and Yip is confident his five-year-old son of Strategic can snatch the top prize. "The owner has been very keen to win the Million Challenge and so Loyal Army has been doing all his racing here and more importantly, he has kept improving and getting stronger," Yip said. Loyal Army will contest the Class Three Kwai Fong Handicap in the last event of Wednesday's racecard, in competition with other top challengers including fourth-placed Nugget Warrior (44 points), sixth-placed Good Strike (40 points) and eighth-placed Tai Sing Yeh (34 points). "I know most of the contenders will run on Wednesday but my horse is extremely good at Happy Valley," he added. Yip also has another entry, Our Lucky Baby, lying in tenth position with 30 points, but believes it will be difficult for the horse to finish in the top three places even if he wins the Briar Handicap in Race 6. If Loyal Army cannot add any points in his final assignment, it will certainly make the Challenge finale more exciting, as eight other contenders still have the chance to finish among the top three points scorers and cash in on the bonus. Caspar Fownes remains confident of the chances of his five-year-old Australian import, Nugget Warrior. "He will give a big threat to the leader if something better is off his game," Fownes said. Trainer Almond Lee fields Good Strike on the card but the horse must run to his best to keep his door open. The Me Tsui-trained Strawberry is capable of applying pressure up front and has already obtained two wins, two seconds and a third to score 46 points. He will run in the Shing Ping Handicap in Race 7 over 1650m but Tsui concedes that he lacks confidence in the consistent Strawberry being able to add more points to his tally in the Challenge finale. "He has maintained his high consistency as always and we will definitely try hard to keep our position," Tsui said. Tony Cruz's Norman Invader, now lying fifth, will clash with fellow contender Our Lucky Baby over the 1200m trip in Race 6. http://special.hkjc.com/promo/en/2009_hvmc/main.asp |

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, THUMBS UP was steadied away from the heels of SPECIAL DAYS which shifted in after being bumped by MR MEDICI which itself was bumped by ABLE WIN which got its head up and proved difficult to settle in the early stages. The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by C Soumillon, the rider of the second placegetter, THUMBS UP, against the winner COLLECTION alleging interference to his mount near the 150 Metres. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the videos, the Stewards found that COLLECTION shifted in near the 150 Metres, resulting in THUMBS UP having to be checked. However, having in mind that COLLECTION had come from behind THUMBS UP in the early stages of the Straight and also having regard to the finishing margin between the two horses at the end of the race of 1?lengths, the Stewards were of the opinion that the protest/objection should be overruled and accordingly the Judge placings as semaphored were confirmed. At a subsequent inquiry, D Beadman pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THUMBS UP, causing that horse to be checked. D Beadman was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 22 March 2010 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 14 March 2010. In addition, D Beadman was fined $40,000 ![]() |

![]() Waiting for news on... Solar Energy, who broke down on Sunday. He's listed as retired but i think, well I heard it was pretty sad so either way... I hope he's feeling better or that he didn't suffer for too long, poor guy.
![]() Retired... Noble Silence (who was scratched on Sunday. Hope he's alright), Xaverian Quest who is the former Chataway and Super Baby who hadn't raced since last May when this happened... The declaration of weighed-in was deferred whilst the Stewards considered whether SUPER BABY had had an unfair start. W C Marwing, the rider of SUPER BABY, explained when the gates opened the horse planted and refused to leave the barriers. The official video confirmed that when the gates opened SUPER BABY planted and failed to leave the stalls and as such took no part in the race. The Stewards ruled that SUPER BABY had not had an unfair start and therefore was deemed as a runner and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER BABY will have to perform satisfactorily in a series of official barrier trials Season Links (the former Every Second) and Congrats (not the one from here!) retired as well. His finest moment and only HK win... http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2007&raceno=06 * * * In happier news...
