Va Tech, Boise and Cincy did not look like top 10 teams this week. If Cincy's QB is out you can replace them now.

I base my picks solely on what they've accomplished this year and not what I think they will do from now on. For the record, Georgia Tech would be #11 on my list so I don't think a road loss to them is anything to be embarrassed about.

I cannot see any reason to go top 10. I don't think there are 10 good teams. This year is horrible.

1. Alabama
2. Texas
3. Miami
4. USC
5. Florida
6. Oregon
7. Oklahoma
8. Georgia Tech
9. Virginia Tech
10. TCU

I know, crazy for having Oklahoma that high but they've lost three really tough games to good teams and haven't been close to full strength. I really think that they are a good team and with a healthy Bradford, they are one of the best teams. I think they'd probably be #1 or #2 right now and undefeated if he doesn't get hurt.

If they are #11 and beat Va Tech (and they did beat them pretty good) why wouldnt they be reversed?

Oklahoma is not a really good team. Neither is Texas right now. OU completely abandoned the running game on Saturday because it is non-existent for them right now. The Big 12 champion is waiting to be slaughtered in a big bowl game, especially if somehow a UT-Alabama game is for the title.

It is splitting hairs distinguishing between #10 and #11 but GT doesn't break off a 39 yard run on 3rd and 7 and VT could have beat them at their home field. I think VT beats them at home and likely at a neutral site as well. VT has played a very tough schedule and that's why I rewarded them with the 10th spot. It's debatable that GT would even be 5-2 if they played VT's schedule.

I don't think Oklahoma is that good a team in most other years. I don't like this Texas team either. Hell, I haven't even been impressed with Florida for that matter. Iowa is in the top ten and they barely beat Northern Iowa and Arkansas St. Cincinnati and Boise St in the top 10? Seriously? Anyway, I think that with Bradford healthy, they are undefeated now and in championship game position. I think they are better than Texas. I don't see Alabama or Florida slaughtering anyone in the title game unless it's Iowa or Cincinnati or TCU.

KG, have you actually watched the games or are just going by the names on the jerseys? Cincinnati and Boise are really good. Oklahoma is not. End of story. That would be like rewarding Notre Dame with a high ranking because they've lost 2 games in relatively close fashion (even though they only really have 1 good win... and that was life and death at home.)

My top 10 right now:
1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Texas
4. Boise
5. Cincinnati
6. USC
7. TCU
8. Oregon
9. LSU
10. BYU

Not even the names on the jersey. I just look at the colors. If Cincinnati or Boise played Oklahoma tonight, I'd take Oklahoma and that's even with the backup quarterback. With Bradford, I'd take Oklahoma by double digits over either team. You'd honestly take Boise or Cincinnati over Oklahoma? Over USC?

Neutral field? Yes and yes. This is just an OK USC team by their standards (and they're still 6th in the nation IMO.)
Boise beat a better team than Oklahoma, which currently sits atop the Pac-10 and unless USC gets a little better in a week will likely end the season there, too. I know the rest of their schedule sucks but that really isn't their fault, no one will schedule them. Cincinnati is a tougher defense schedulewise because they've played a bunch of decent-but-not-great teams but I know what I see- they are absolutely pounding people and won't lose before the bowls if Pike is back OK.

Maybe but you said you ranked them on what they had done.

You may think OK is better than Texas but they just lost to them. Which is the whole problem with college football. Too much peoples thinking.

And I have Texas ahead of Oklahoma.

They beat them on the field where the game was scheduled. They rushed for over 300 yards against them. It wasnt some fluke.

And this is the problem with rankings. Results of the games mean less than the opinion of the ranker.

Do computers have opinions as well? The most widely accepted computer rankings is the Sagarin and they have Va Tech ahead of Georgia Tech as well:

Computer rankings are as bad if not worse. Tell the guys who play for Ga Tech that even though they beat Va Tech who is now a 2 loss team, you are still ranked behind them. Whats ironic is that the same NCAA runs a tourney to determine a natl champion and upsets by low seeded teams are highlighted. In football they are shunned. Hell we should have the top 5 Vegas bookmakers write lines for every theoretical game played on a neutral field and use those too. At least they have something on the line in their rankings.
