I think he would have had his best chance to win, if he layed closer to the pace, rather than sitting just in front of Zen....how in the world was he going to out close her from back there.....She had shown some sort of pace in the past, and i think could have shown more than that early....
I take nothing away from the BIG Horse, she is pretty nice....winning all those races coming from behind, is certainly no easy thing.....

I think Zenyatta would have won by 5 if Mike"God I gotta tour the grandstand before I cross the finish line" Smith had not gone so wide.Best race of the year so far!

Garcia purposely went wide to push Zenyatta even wider. St Trinians ran a monster race but unfortunately Zenyatta was an even bigger monster. If only the Lakers could have watched her race for inspiration.

Now that the (super impressive) win record is in the bag … there's really only one more major goal for Z this season …defending her BCC title.

Forget about this RA … if they want a piece of Z let them come to Cali.

And forget about the subjective HotY award … it has already been cheapened too much over the years with selections like FT and RA.

The real goal now is taking down back-to-back Classics.

First 6-year-old to win the great American race … and the first to do it on different surfaces

That's some SERIOUS stuff right there, kids.

Needless to say, though, it won't be easy … the odds are clearly against her.

But Shirreffs has to keep his eye on the ball now … and do the best that he can to get her to the Downs in the best possible condition...

but....the record for a win streak in the modern day is 19-0. or are we all going to pretend that new mexico mare never existed like tvg is trying to do? and lol at your take on HOY. if zenyatta manages to win it this year, i'd imagine your opinion would change dramatically about it being 'subjective'.

Who cares about win streaks against lesser competition. I don't understand everyone's fascination with win streaks. They are stupid. Great horses lose races and its not a big deal. Beating NM breds and Grade 3 competition on synthetic doesn't do anything for me, whether they win 2 in a row or 50.

This post must be like in elementary school where they wanted you to write a little story not so much for content but so they could get you to practice things like spelling and penmanship. This one really could've been improved by "drawerings."

In other words, z will not leave SoCal and her soft spots until the BC.

I do have to give z credit for breaking Hallowed Dreams' mark of 16 wins in a row.

rachel won her race faster than blame.
zenyatta on the other hand ran slower than rail trip.

now, props to her consistency for going 17-0. but consistency and greatness aren't interchangeable words. one of congaree's best races, the one in which everyone's respect for him grew, was his nose loss to milwaukee brew in the big 'cap.

I thought you were better than this, my toy is bigger than yours...Your handicapping method here is so simplistic it's silly, where did you get this from a 4 yr child?

If you watched the Californian and thought afterwards that Zenyatta is ready to take on Rail Trip in the HOL Gold Cup then you need to get a prescription for new goggles. Hell, her own trainer isn't even willing to take him on and I don't blame them, he's back in form and loves that track.

Well, in all fairness, the trainer of Rail Trip didn't exactly sound jazzed up to take on Zenyatta post-race yesterday either.
