Well, I can certainly say I've learned a lot in this thread.
One poster is kidding around and having fun while I am being mean and cruel. Who knew? |

FYI - For those who enjoy speed figures:
Winning Colors ran a 116 Beyer in the Santa Anita Derby (if memory serves), a 111 in the Kentucky Derby, a 106 in the Preakness, and a 115 in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. Winning Colors at 3 was an order of magnitude better than Rags to Riches. Her Santa Anita Derby effort was absolutely sensational where she just blew the doors off the western colts in 1:47 winning by the length of the track. And looking at her triple crown races and the Breeders Cup Distaff, back then fields were actually deep and good horses danced every dance. There were a lot of talented fillies behind her and Personal Ensign. As metioned previously, Goodbye Halo was awfully successful in her own right...and Sham Say, Classic Crown, Epitome, Willa On The Move etc were pretty nice horses as well.

Winning Colors is better. I think it's harder winning the Derby than Belmont. IN the Derby you have every single horse pointing to it as their goal. I think in the Belmont she was just fresher than the two good horses she beat (Curlin and Hard Spun.) I consider Winning Colors beating Forty Niner and Risen Star in the Derby more impressive. Her SA Derby was self explanatory and she was a jump or two from beating one of the best race mares ever in Personal Ensign in the Distaff. Rags winning the Belmont is a great accomplishment, I'll always consider the Derby a "higher" quality win.
