I think I am leaving now.

I can't stand it when people come down on others in this particular way.

Does it help your own sense of self worth to talk like that?

Bottom of the pile......only dummies go to the military?

How can you do this to people who play a strong role in national defense when most of you did nothing to that end?

Fucl< you.

Why did he choose the Navy over college (or one of the military academies)?
uh, well that answer would be 100% yes

You and The Philski have greatly disappointed me.
Mort- that's not my (or Scav's) intention, and I apologize to all if my wording sounded as such. I'm just concerned with the total amount of military spending. My political opinion was influenced by it. That is the discussion at hand...

WE ARE NOT talking about that. I do nothing but respect them and admire them for what they do.

BUT

I am simply saying my observation from when I was in high school. It wasn't like the top 60% of my graduating class was even considering the military unless they had a military family

Don't go blowing this out of proportation....

my youngest also is considering the navy, he wants to be a pilot. he's hoping to get into the naval academy. he scored a 28 on the ACT as a sophomore. he's certainly not an average kid.
Dannie of course you know I mean no disrespect in any way.

Being a private at Fort Drum like my dumbass buddies were and being in flight school at Annapolis or working on nukes are two VERY different things. The Naval Academy is one of the hardest schools in the country to get into for a reason.

This just doesn't make sense to me. This isn't China where you only have one option as to where you get your news. That is biased media. This is a supply and demand economy. There were like ten TV options to watch election coverage on and thousands of internet options to get your election coverage from. If people didn't like the supposed liberal bias on a network then people would switch to another network! Ultimately supply and demand dictates what is covered and how it is covered. And this year the demand was to focus on the issues and less on the Jeremiah Wright's and Bill Ayer's that were so emphasized by the Republicans. If the demand was for more of that then the public would have switched their news source!

do we need the best military? sure. i'd hate for us not have it and then need it. now, do we need the best military at the size it is? maybe not.
why he chose the navy-he wanted in their nuke program. also, my husband (his father of course) is an electrician, a skill he learned in the navy and has put to great use. mark was interested in that field, so he joined to be a nuclear electrician. he could go and work at any nuclear power plant in the country now. but he likes the navy (which by the way took a raw teen kid and has turned him into a man, maturation is a bonus) and has decided to make it a career.
he considered the naval academy, but like his father, wants to be hands-on, not management-which is basically what the officers corps is. he said if he chose college, he may go for electrical engineering, but since he's re-signing and wants to make it a career, i don't see it happening-unless he goes when he retires at age 38!
eric on the other hand wants to parlay becoming a pilot into being an astronaut--not easily done if you don't go into the navy or air force.

IF this were true, then why are the Libs going all out for the Fairness Doctrine to be resumed again?....because they want to silence opposing views!

i am proud of them, my daughter as well. she talked about going in as well, but decided to go to college-all free of charge, as she got an academic scholarship based on her ACT score, and a band scholarship as well. hell, three kids--and no student loans. hoooray!!!! since eric scored so high, if he decides on college, he'll be free as well with that score. free is good.

I am upset not at the discussion of cutting military spending, but at remarks made about high school kids who join up...and they way you say them before there is crtiticism is the way you mean them.

I get the feeling (It takes a long time ,I know) that too many people on here have a superiority complex.

Why..I'm not sure.

But I don't really feel superior to anyone. I don't feel superior to a homeless person. Why should I? There may be the smartest of all.

So if you see me a while longer it's only because I am checking a couple final pm's.

Otherwise I'm through ....use me to feel better about yourselves.

Are you out of your mind? If this supposed liberal bias in the media is so real then wouldn't the Fairness Doctrine be the greatest thing for conservatives?
