Had a horse I owned that I'd claimed for $C5k. He'd won two races after I claimed him then he went sour, didn't hit the board in 4 or 5 races and was beaten everytime by over 20.

Gave him 60 days off, then 60 more to train back to a race. On paper his form looked terrible coming off the layoff. In the paddock, my trainer just looked at me and for the first time ever, said "He's ready to go".

Usually don't bet my horses but played a little over $100 of tri's and ex's. He went off 14-1. Hit with a Lake horse and a Capuano horse underneath and walked out with over $6k in my pocket.

Turned around and ran him two weeks later in the 9f Old Man Winter at Philly Park. Hammered him again in the tri's with two of Lake's horses and walked out of there with over $10k.

Used the cash to buy another horse - spent what was left in about 6 months training/feeding his sorry, slow

[/i]

Great story, phystech!

When I counsel novices about going into a casino, I normally mention that the vast majority of people walking OUT of a casino have lost $$.

So therefore, if you walk out of the casino with $50 more in your pocket than you walked in with, you're likely in the top 33% of winners for the day. The moral is, have the gumption to walk while you're ahead.

I give the same advice at the race track.

Just make it the goal to win a few bucks each day.

Most of the people betting horses looking for the "big hit" as their goal are not going to end up happy on a frequent basis.

Pick your plays, play your plays, and have a good time. And celebrate your wins, however small they might be!

Default almost score!

I Was At The Del Mar Satellite And Damn Near Took The Whole Superfecta Pool At Sunland. I Had A 1.00 Dollar Straight Super And Didnt Flip The Last 2 Numbers And It Wouldve Paid All. I Was Ready To Hang Myself As The Winner Was Like 49 To 1 And Pool I Believe Was 53,000 Bucks.

Props for having Giacomo PERIOD. I tossed him...

I also liked Closing Argument and Afleet Alex, but not to win. I was on the Bellamy Road bandwagon

Well I had him just now in the top spot.lol I had just loved Closing Arguement in his last 3 starts before the Derby. Some overlooked him because he wasnt winning everything, but if you looked at his pps he was on the board in every race. I mean he was there every time. Boy now if he could have won, I would have loved it. The money would have been great but that I had been telling everyone and anyone how much I liked him. The bragging rights ya know.

I had Invisible Ink at 55-1 underneath Point Given on a couple of tri and super tickets, along with Monarchos. PG's Derby will always be one of the most disappointing races I've witnessed.

No one will remember this horse unless you're from Chicago but I and a couple of partners pretty much bought out the super using Bada Boom making his second start on grass with Zoe Cadman up at 70-1. We got beat by a Block horse (I believe Ioya Forever) and although we had the tri as a backup (paid like 3K) we were sick to see the super with the favorite paid over 45K and there were 2 tickets cashed. Still makes me sick writing this.

Two years ago on BC day I was betting $1 tri boxes with 4 horses in almost every race. Had 3 of the first 4 finishers in a race 5 times that day and didn't hit one tri. Hit a bunch of exactas tho. Still I think the tri's I missed added up to about 7 grand.

My favorite DQ off all time!

That Arlington Million race was also the day I began to hate Jamie Spencer......the next time was when he cost me the trifecta in the BC Mile on Antonius Pius (SP?). Had a wide open lane and still almost ran him into the back of Singletary.

Not that I am proud of this, but I had gone to the OTB and wanted to play the first at Mountaineer with 20WPS on the 3. They had the card divided as being afternoon and night with the first 2 races being on afternoon. I played the 3rd where the 3 won at $112 to win.

I recently put 2K into a Santa Anita card for a carryover P6 and hit 5 of 6 with 2 horses finishing 2nd and 3rd in the 6th race of 8.

The pot carried over another day for 402K so most likely I wouldn't have had it all since most likely others would have had the same horses in the race I missed but I can dream can't I!!!!

5 of 6 paid $2750 so X 2 was nice so I probably shouldn't say it's a miss .....but it could have been oh so sweetier....

I have posted about last years Preakness previously so I wont repeat the details of 8/7/all at $75 for > 120K.

The Gods were great to me last year and I am very very appreciative

DrD
