Arc could be possible target for star filly Paloma Infiel by Michael Burns AN international career with even the Arc as a long-term target is under consideration for star filly Paloma Infiel after she beat the colts in Sunday evening's Clasico El Derby (Chilean Derby). Sent off favourite, she solidified her status as Chile`s best three-year-old on turf with a hard-fought victory in the 123rd running of the Grade 1, third and final leg of the Triple Crown over 1m4f on turf at Valparaiso. Under 19-year-old Rafael Cisternas, the filly unleashed an explosive rally along the inside fence with a furlong remaining to prevail by a head over Febo Apolo in the $110,000 event. Paloma Infiel was capturing her second leg of the Triple Crown following a one-length score in the Clasico El Ensayo in November at Santiago. She bypassed the middle leg, the St. Leger, which is run on dirt. The prestigious Gran Premio Latinoamericano in Lima in March is her next target before a probable US career with the Arc coming into calculations later on. |
