Has cancer. After 'bout 2 1/2 months, had the colonoscopy today. Big mass blocking, and it bleeds when touched.

Stage 2-type A (whatever that means. ) Best case scenario(if you're gunna have a malignant colon cancer.) Appears totally isolated to that one area. Colon was almost totally blocked. Doctor, and Health Net were playing games the whole way. So, he had to go to another gastroenterologist and surgeon. Everything got done real fast, then. None of that(surgery, hospital stay etc.) was done using his insurance. If he had waited for his Healthnet-Covered doctor to give a damn, then the surgery would of been about Christmas, and it may have spread to the lymph nodes by then. His parents had the money to throw at this. Would of been a lot different if they didn't.

Great story and good for your friend. A year or 2 from now they may have had to wait to be Govt approved no matter what money they had or how hard they worked for it.

What a bunch of ridiculous nonsense. Get up to speed on the whole "healthcare" debate, and what it actually entails, would you?

I guess it just whoosed right over your heads that nearly all the healthcare reform bills being formed (not the Senate bill) will stop the above type of thing from happening to his friend.

But you guys keep fighting to maintain insurance company and healthcare system abuses we have right now - way to go

You believe in a fairytale that will insure all including the 50 million now uninsured, with no restrictions or premiums for pre-existing conditions at a cheaper price.

You know that saying if it sounds to good to be true it is.

What happened is, in the first colonoscopy, the guy told the patient that it looked like cancer, and it was a major obstruction(the obstruction is the reason there were symptoms.) The results of the biopsy (of the obstruction) came back negative (no cancer.) The guy who did the first colonoscopy said that didn't make sense, and it needed to be repeated. Unfortunately, the patient was far more interested in getting the 2nd colonoscopy than his Health Net Doctor (in other words not that concerned he had an almost total blockage of the colon.) Later, she said "Well, it did come back negative." At this point influential people got involved, and a next day appointment with a Santa Monica "To the Stars" Gastroenterologist (who doesn't take HMO) was scheduled. The same thing happened though(when the hotshot doctor performed his own colonoscopy.) Looks like tumor blocking, but biopsy was negative. It made no sense to him. So, then, a virtual colonoscopy was performed. In that, they saw a growth on the outside of the colon was growing inward. So, they were getting negative biopsies because they kept taking the inner colon wall(the tumor was pushing from in behind that colon lining.) So, it was not a typical case. Lucky that it created symptoms, and lucky to have money.

Lucky it was Stage 2-A, too. Glad it turned out well for your friend.

I think the moral is that you have to be your own best healthcare advocate - no matter who your insurer is.

Did they hit the lottery? Or was it more hard work and practical investing? I only mention because the latter has very little to do with luck and very few hit the lottery.
