BRAD FREE: Drefong to skip Grade 1 Malibu Stakes
Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Drefong will skip the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes on Dec. 26, opening day of the winter meet at Santa Anita, trainer Bob Baffert confirmed Wednesday morning. “He got a little temp about a week ago, I had to treat him,” Baffert said. “He’s just going back to the track now.” Drefong, whose five straight wins include the Grade 1 King’s Bishop at Saratoga and BC Sprint at Santa Anita, would have been favored in the seven-furlong Malibu. Without Drefong, the leading contenders in the Malibu include BC Sprint third-place finisher Mind Your Biscuits, stakes winner Sharp Azteca and Baffert-trained Ten Blessings. Ten Blessings earned a 106 Beyer Figure winning a first-level allowance on Nov. 4. While he is expected to run in the Malibu, the status of two other Baffert trainees will be determined after they work on Wednesday. Jazzy Times and Mor Spirit work at 7:45. Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Arrogate works at 9 a.m. Baffert said he is “still on the fence what to do with him.”

Tough break that Defrong is out of the Malibu.

Those losses for Conquest Enforcer are all due to running with his head a little high. Harder to hold horses off doing that.

That Hill race is pretty much racing of the frogs.

Great betting race. O'Neill at 12-1 and Nakatani at 50-1. This is a great value race

Awesome Banner{8-1} sure is tough at one turn, five stakes wins and a crummy DQ last time..........he's fast, classy, and well drawn.
He could be good on Monday. https://youtu.be/u_OaXFFXkbU Didn't like this DQ: https://youtu.be/2Rxb3ExqHAo Isotherm{6-1} took a sneaky uncomfortable trip in his latest,it just didn't go well for him. A smooth, well timed journey (no pointless middle moves please) will go a long way in helping him in the........."Mathis Brothers Mile" ? My word.........I'll just call the race the "Grade 2 nightcap",that sounds much better. Keep an eye on the #6 horse: https://youtu.be/1i2zYGq9dco Last edited by taxicab : 12-26-2016 at 03:45 AM. |

I think it might be too far for the O'NEILL. Square Eddie Horses do run well down the hill. I think if you look at Ohio's races at Del Mar, you'll see an unhappy horse who is fighting the jock, and doesn't have much kick. Then, if you look at his races over the Santa Anita Turf you'll see a different horse. I think he should be 3 for 3 over this course. I think he should of won down the hill last time. Blanc got him stuck, then, when full of run, he got sandwiched. Course, with this many horses, he might find trouble again. Hill races are absurd, though. Usually it's too hard, or too easy. If you go wide, the 4th or 5th best horse is probably gunna win one of the other legs of the pick 4.
