..... and from the HKJC.....

Withdrawals - Sha Tin Racemeeting - 20 February 2007 (Race 7 No. 1 Joyful Winner and No. 10 Tiber)

17 February 2007

The Stewards have been advised several horses stabled at Sha Tin Racecourse have in recent days developed raised temperatures. At this stage the affected horses are restricted to some lead ponies used by the outriders and some horses trained by Mr John Moore. All the affected horses have been isolated from the general horse population and blood samples have been taken from these horses for testing.

The Department of Veterinary Regulation and International Liaison, and the Department of Veterinary Clinical Services have advised the condition afflicting these horses may be indicative of a viral infection.

The condition of all horses stabled at Sha Tin Racecourse is being closely monitored. Particular attention is being paid to those horses which are declared to run at the Sha Tin racemeeting on 20 February 2007.

Yesterday the Stewards were advised by the Veterinary Officer Holigan (Race 3, Horse No.3) and Rice Field (Race 10, Horse No.10) had raised temperatures and were not suitable to race at the Sha Tin racemeeting on 20 February 2007. Both of these were withdrawn by the Stewards acting on that advice.

This afternoon the Veterinary Officer has advised the Stewards that the following two horses which are declared runners at the above mentioned Sha Tin racemeeting have also developed raised temperatures and in his opinion are not suitable to race:-

Race 7 Horse No, 1 Joyful Winner

Race 7 Horse No. 10 Tiber

Acting on this advice the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of both horses.

The Derby Trial is tonight..... a shame.
