Not sure why a couple got turned.
The 9 is Melbourne Cup winner Cross Current in the paddock before he made a triumphant return in the Dubai Gold Cup. The 7 is the champion Japanese filly Almond Eye who just crushed in the Dubai Turf. Huge delegation of her fan club made the trip to cheer her on. |

Gambling is illegal so betting not allowed but saw more than a few people on their phones to their home countries that were doing more than texting.
On admission you are given a lottery style punch card to fill out with a P6, P5, Superfectas ,Double Trios for specific races with monetary prizes. Super rules.JPG |

Kind of neat when the ruler of the country comes down to the rail to watch his horse race just like any other Joe.
Sheikh is the one in the gold robe welcoming Thunder Snow back to the winners circle. Sheik at rail.JPG Sheik's Box.JPG |

At least when you leave your wallet isn't empty from predicting wrong which is a good thing because everything there is very expensive. Not a bargain vacation destination.

Very jealous, looks like an awesome trip.
Will make it some day: I'm on a mission to collect the best races across the world. Went to the Hong Kong International Races in 2017 and the Prix de le Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in 2018, next one will be the Melbourne Cup. It's really cool to see how universal the sport is- I met people from all over the world and they love the game as much or more than we do.

Its Winx. Actually her connections were in Dubai to accept an award. Rumor was although she is supposed to be retired after her next start nothing is written in stone yet.

Just to name drop almost ran over Frankie Dettori who was staying just a few doors down. had a nice conversation with Mike Smith & Joe Talamo at the pool, and had brief chats with Dale Romans, Dallas Stewart among others. Even had Charlie Appleby tell me at the breakfast Thursday morning that his entries were ready to roll including Cross Counter who was coming off a 5 month break. What a training job to be able to get a horse ready to win a 2 miles off that layoff. All very approachable and willing to talk horses with a stranger. |

I came home with an extra program if someone wants to add to their collection and willing to auction it off with the proceeds to the Jockey Disabled Fund
if anyone is interested. |
