Yikes. Rider sends from the rail as he should, but then lets a 38-1 no-hoper cross over on him and isn't able to switch off the rail and stalk. Shock of the century, when the top two engulf the leader, he gets caught in behind the dying speed for a comical amount of time and is shuffled all the way back to last by the top of the stretch. Horse re-rallies to get 3rd behind the top two who had separated from him by a pole at that point. I can't say with certainty he would've been better than 3rd, but he definitely would've been a hell of a lot closer at the finish and he was given absolutely no shot to win.
This comes after a tough trip on dirt last time out, so he'll probably return at a pretty good price in his next start. |
