It feels like they didn't do a great job of researching potential starters.

How can anyone want money on Mask when he's got an undisclosed injury Chad's not saying much about.

Yup. Bizarre inclusion.

I wouldn't be too quick to place faith in Audible and his connections, either. Not only is the horse's profile reminiscent of One Liner, but a day after his Holy Bull win it was announced he's probable to "train up to" the Florida Derby nearly two months from now.

One Liner is also trained by Pletcher, owned by Winstar, and sired by the brittle Into Mischief. He's just making it back to the races this weekend from his Southwest score nearly a year ago that put him on the Derby trail. If I recall correctly, the plan with him was to "train up to" some major final prep race, too.

If that's not enough, Into Mischief also hasn't shown much aptitude when it comes to siring horses with stamina for the classics.

Maybe because he took off like American Pharoah when he was asked. Maybe he’s not saying much because he knows he has the goods. Watch his two races again and it might shed a little light.

Given Pletcher's history of prepping for the Derby I would almost be more alarmed if he was running the horse back in the Fountain of Youth. I think distance limitations is a far bigger concern than the not so surprising revelation that Pletcher is only going to prep a horse twice for the Derby.

I'm interested to see how much money Montauk takes.
He ran one race last October (albeit, an impressive maiden win)
and disappeared until two recent works.
Based on his resume, He really shouldn't even be listed as an individual entrant, but his potential seems to be overshadowing that.

He could end up being a special horse and maybe one of the top 3-year olds by the end of the summer. But making the derby seems like a pretty tough task.

That was Sunday. By Tuesday on ATR, Pletcher said based on how he was acting, he wasn't sure he'd be able to hold Audible out that long.

Or he may be Materiality circa 2018; run a huge fig in the Florida Derby and turn into a pumpkin once he moves north of the Mason Dixon line. The dam was a nickel claimer devoid of talent, on an encouraging note, they paid a pile for the colt twice 150 as a yearling and 500 as 2 year old so he must be a very good looking type?

MONTAUK withdrawn from Pool before opening as throat issue interrupting training making Derby unlikely.. https://www.kentuckyderby.com/upload...ture_Wager.pdf

This leads us to one MAJOR question:

Now that Montauk’s off the trail, who will RHT hitch his wagon to prematurely so that he could be the first one to bump the thread and say “told ya so”?

And on another more interesting note, am I the only one that’s uninspired by this group of 3 year olds? I know it’s early, and there’s plenty of time for these youngsters to improve mightily, but im more pumped for some of the 3 yr old turfers to kick off their campaign than I am of the dirt horses. Rushing Fall and Analyze It most notably.

Bolt d'Oro appears to be quite talented and recall that his Beyer Speed figure for the Norfolk would have been near the tops all-time for a juvenile had the figure makers not decided to lower it based on logic/contextual factors.

That Good Magic lit him up in the BC Juvenile puts him up there as well, and Solomini came back and flattered them both in the CashCall. On top of that, the expensive Instilled Regard came to hand once he started routing, and in turn, boosted the form of Los Al at FG.
