It was an improvement at least. And Bayern had to duel Appealing Tale.
But, a GI level horse with his resume should outduel Appealing Tale and kick on.

Bayern is just off form and is no longer same horse, he's hardly the worse BCC winner. He was a legit winner and was a good horse

Fortunately, he was gelded, so he was often brought back to the races. Bayern on the other hand, has folded like a cheap suit repeatedly, and more so this year than last. Perhaps whatever held him back from making his 4yo debut this year has also caused him to lose a step (or two).
