102 seems a little light. Over under was 1:55 for the race and he was well under that. Fastest time since Curlin. I guess the Beyers of old will never be reached again even though the times are quite similar.

Funny how a horse posts a 14 pt new Beyer top, and a not word. Even though it is typical of California horses to run faster outside the state, than when they are at home. Where are the conspiracy theories today?

The form on that horse was very muddled with just one start on the dirt in the past 6 months (and only 3 lifetime) and that coming in the merry-go-round Blue Grass that saw a loping early pace. In the Preakness, the confirmed late runner got fast fractions to sit behind and for good measure a ridiculous early move from the Japanese import to force the issue up front.

As has been mentioned many times throughout the years on this website by people well-versed in speed figures, 3yos tend to improve dramatically especially in the early part of their sophomore years.

Rombauer was 5th in the BC Juvenile last year, finishing well and passing several horses. That type of promising effort has been a strong profile for classic success for decades. See:

Tank's Prospect, Spend A Buck, Danzig Connection, Alysheba, Bet Twice, Easy Goer, Go and Go, Pine Bluff, Sea Hero, Tabasco Cat, Editor's Note, Lemon Drop Kid, Point Given, Afleet Alex, Mine That Bird, Lookin At Lucky, Union Rags, and Exaggerator.

I’m surprised the Beyer wasn’t a 120. I’m sure this has something to do with Irad and Jose I just can’t figure out a way to tie it together. Maybe someone can.

Conspiracy theories about Rombauer?

Has his trainer had multiple overages that I missed? Do Mike McCarthy horses frequently display multiple gears?

Great post
Even though his last race was in Kentucky, is he not a Southern California based horse? Everyone of his workouts have been at SA or DMR. So he is a Southern Cal horse.

I’m missing the point. What are you alluding to?

What figure did he earn on the Dan Rowan Big Vagina scale?

111 sounds about right. Curlin ran slightly faster and got that, on a faster track than Saturday.

So you figure a new 23 point top and your basis is comparing his time with a race 14 years ago where based on absolutely nothing you think the track Curlin did it on was faster.

I’m surprised Beyer hasn’t reached out to you to get you on the team.

It is Based on the track announcer saying the lightning fast pimlico strip during Curlins race. Why are Beyers so low now compared to the past? Isn’t that how one should compare how good a hoss is? According to the numbers, everyone now is way slower than they were back then. But if they are running the same times, how can this be ?

You’ve outdone yourself with this one. Take a bow.
