Not sure it was necessary, because son's of Kitten's Joy (Tripoli) ought not to be scary on dirt, but was that Azul Coast doing the patented floating wide block move into the first turn that always seems to transpire when Baffert has a hopeless long shot in a big race for no reason along with his favorite?

It's not all bad.
Eight Rings won for the first time in over 2 years on the undercard, perhaps doing just enough to enter the BC Classic picture and getting the opportunity to float Essential Quality (and maybe others) wide into the first turn. His last win was an emphatic score in the American Pharoah in 2019 in similar fashion to his allowance win yesterday. Coincidentally, Express Train who was a ho-hum 4th that day also echoed his own effort with his suck-up 3rd in the Awesome Again. Meanwhile, Collusion Illusion who pulled up and walked off in that same American Pharoah, did his best to emulate the performance yesterday, chucking the bit at the 3/8 pole in the Santa Anita Sprint. Unfortunately, he only had 6 furlongs to work with so he wasn't able to register a DNF this time... |
